Army 1944?

Ohio* 1969?

Nebraska 1972?

Nebraska 1983?

So....

Is this LSU team....this defensive oriented team....obviously as we all know, coached by former Michigan player and former Michigan Assistant Coach Les Miles....

Is this the greatest college team of all time?

Nope, not even close. UM in '97 would have beat them. The entire CFB landscape is having a down year this year and LSU has just benefitted by everyone else sucking. For starters, if Alabama's FG kicker was worth a damn they would have lost to the Tide.

Absolutely not.

zyxt, I actually had typed a similar statement about the "97" UM team then erased it, because I'm tired and didn't want to elaborate on it.

Nasty in terms of talent level.. Dorsey was the only real weak link..

In terms of college QB's though he was very good, he wasn't an NFL QB though. That team was loaded with guys that make a lot of money on Sundays

He just said it today on The Sports Reporters.

He said, "if LSU wins out and wins the NC, they'll go down as one of the greatest college football teams of all time, having beat 4 teams in the top three in the country."

I think they are gonna win out.

So, whether ya like it or not - get ready for acclamations.

It's one thing to say they're the best "team" of all time, meaning they could line up and beat everyone else. It's another to say they have the best list of teams defeated on their way to a national title. Beating 4 teams ranked in the top 3 is impressive. But just because they did that and the '97 UM team didn't have the opportunity doesn't in itself validate them as the better team.

The best team of all time wouldn't line up and beat everybody everytime anyway. The best team of all time would probably beat the second best team of all time, say three out of five...

His analysis is TOTALLY BS.

First, the rankings he is referencing are not where those teams will be at the end.
Second, as already mentioned, this has been a very poor year all around.
Third, if Alabama had a kicker worth a damn, LSU loses that game.
Fourth, IF LSU and Bama play in the NC, that makes his comment even less credible as they already beat Bama. They should have to play a top team from another conference in order to provide more validation that they can beat teams from other conferences and not just the SEC. Just because voters and computers proclaim Bama #2 doesn't prove Bama is better than the top teams of other conferences.
Fifth, there have been teams equally dominant during stronger years of competition. Their performance vs Bama proves this team is extremely vulnerable and can be beaten whereas the aforementioned teams left less doubt.

Just not buying into this whole thing even remotely, regardless of how much the media wants to over-hype it to improve their TV rankings. It does not remotely pass the "smell test", unless that test is to verify something is shit.
