Mad Max Trade Value

Spot on.

Cabrera hit 25% of our HRs last year.

If Fielder can bounce back and hit 35-40 HRs this year it would make our lineup so much more formidable.

Would love to be able to add another player who can hit 20+ out of park to the lineup.

The fact that we're gonna be replacing Peralta's bat with Iglesias only makes matters worse.

This lineup needs another power threat in the lineup badly.

He only hit 30 his first year, and got to 40 5 years ago. I don't see him hitting 35-40. He needs to do better at being patient and not swinging at a bunch of shit.

so...the Tigers need a power threat but can't be slow on the basepaths and needs to be a good defensive player. He also needs to be patient at the plate, take a walk, not strike out too much, lead off, play 2B or LF and not break the bank.

Get it done DD!

Why doesn't he need to strike out too much?

If he walks and hits for power, most of those players strike out a lot. And besides, most will tolerate the strike outs.

It is the players thats don't walk and/or don't hit for power and strike out a lot that are aggravating.

Besides, everything you posted, except for the strikeout part, basically equals Granderson-type player (although we can debate the leadoff and defensive abilities).

it was tounge and cheek...trying to sum up what people have asked for on this board. I would like to see Grandy in the OF as long as it is at a reasonable price. I don't think that will happen. Somebody will over pay for him.

I don't see it happening either.

Seriously, you thought you "got me on something"?

So, what you are saying is that we should get Hamilton because he did well against AA, but didn't do well against Bonderman-type pitchers? I guess I don't hold that value.

Come on now, your just being stubborn. Bonderman was just an example of some of the type of pitchers in AAA. If you really need me to give more examples of some AAA pitchers then here they are. Many of the top prospects are put IN AA to play against each other rather than against minor and major league veterans in Triple-A. The expectation is usually that these players will be in the majors by the end of the season, as their salaries tend to be higher than those of most prospects.

Buffalo Bisons
Ricky Romero - washed up
Chin Ming Wang - washed up

Charlotte Knights
Daisuke Matsuzaka - Possibly washed up
Matt Capps - Possibly washed up

Gwinnett Braves
Freddy Garcia - Possibly washed up
David Carpenter - Lost his confidence
Roman Colon - Never was

While Hamilton did have a down year in 2013 you need to cut the guy a little bit of slack. He went from playing SS for 4 years to being thrown into the fire at CF. He had to seriously concentrate on learning a new position he has never played before. The good thing is when he came up to the major league level he was hitting great. Although being just a small sample size it is better than going 0 for 22 or worse.

It looks like the Nationals could be a match for Scherzer.

The Nationals are looking to add an "elite" starting pitcher via trade, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, and they're in luck, as both Max Scherzer and David Price have been rumored to be available this winter. Rosenthal explains his reasons behind believing that Scherzer could be a better fit, highlighted by the fact that Nats GM Mike Rizzo drafte Scherzer in the first round when he was the Diamondbacks' scouting director. Rosenthal's sources maintain that the Tigers aren't shopping Scherzer at this point but rather just listening to offers. Here's more from a jam-packed column from Rosenthal

I think it would have to be a multi team trade. Not sure the Nats have anything other than Prospects that the Tigers would be interested in. I don't think there are any LF or 2B on the ML level that would help the Tigers.

What? Anthony Rendon fits exactly as someone who can draw a walk and leadoff. And Tyler Clippard would be exactly what we need in the pen.

Hopefully, if a trade like that happened, we'd get more.

on strikeouts, here are top 10 MLB strikeout leaders with WAR next to the name

Chris Carter (0.5)
Chris Davis (6.4)
Adam Dunn (-0.2)
Mike Napoli (4.1)
Pedro Alvarez (3.4)
Jay Bruce (5.1)
Mark Trumbo (2.2)
Dan Uggla (-1.3)
Evan Longoria (6.3)
Justin Upton (2.6)

some of these guys are pretty bad but i'd take a lot of them on my team tomorrow. also, keep in mind that defense and baserunning are big components of WAR, guys who K a lot tend to hit for a lot of power and those guys generally aren't the fastest.

Those are two solid pieces, still under team control. I wouldn't expect anything more than a mid level prospect.

A RP and a guy who didn't put up outstanding numbers for a possible Cy Young? Yeah I expect more.

READ: 1 year rental for return on 2 players under team control for long periods.

CYY or no CYY you are not going to get a major haul for a 1 year rental on a player who had 1 great season....and a bunch of mediocre ones.

I rather resign him. If he was gone for sure than I might agree with your point. But there is nothing that tells me MI decided he doesn't want to spend more cash..As far as the "other" teams, them the breaks. People give up a lot in those situations ..

The teams who could afford to sign/extend Max are likely the same teams that could also be the Tigers potential opponents in the postseason, or if NL, the World Series. Imagine Max toeing the rubber vs Verlander in a Game One...eek!!

A team without Max beat the Tigers this year. The Tigers can create a more complete team by trading Max at the same time getting players that will help the Tigers have success down the road. If they keep him this year and lose him they get a draft pick. We all know how good the Tigers are at drafting. I would rather them make a trade.

They only get a draft pick if they make a Qualifying Offer and he refuses.

DD has let others walk (i.e. Polanco) without receiving picks.

Get as much as you can DD for Max or better yet fix the bullpen get a second basemen and LF and win the title with Max in 2014..

I think a lot of you are making a lot of great points for and against trading him.
