Material support for terrorism

To me, it's all about the message. When you already believe that abortion is wrong and you have these heavily edited videos that come out, making it look like Planned Parenthood is out there making millions off of dead babies and then you get idiots like Josh Fuckstain telling you what he did (don't feel like repeating what he said) in his videos, you have a much higher chance to radicalize. It's the same thing with ISIS and AQ. They believe already that the West wants to kill Muslims and then when their religious leaders speak, they talk about "the evils of the West". It's radicalization. It happens in every religion and every ideology. Hell, it happens in atheism as well. People who incite violence should be prosecuted.

I like that the Pope is using the word "fundamentalism" rather than "radicalism" in talking about violence. When people say "radical", I think people think "well, that's not me.", but fundamentalism has more support.

Fundamentalism is always a tragedy. It is not religious, it lacks God, it is idolatrous,

Together, we must say no to hatred, to revenge and to violence, particularly that violence which is perpetrated in the name of a religion or of God himself,

We Catholics, we have a few, even many fundamentalists. They believe they know absolute truth and corrupt others, I can say this because this is my Church.

...He's had videos about how he thinks Obama is coming for his guns and his religion and held up his gun and said, "This is my freedom switch." ...

Freedom switch? I think it's more commonly known as a "boomstick"

th

I figured that much out. I know MC said it was a hypothetical, but I figured he had something in mind, and his case seems pretty extreme. A group, regularly calling for murder?

here's just one link, and Newman isn't the only one:
It was Newman who wrote in a 2000 book that abortion providers should be executed as convicted murderers ?in order to expunge bloodguilt from the land and people.? Cheryl Sullenger, the book?s co-author and senior vice president of Operation Rescue, served two years in federal prison for her role in the attempted gasoline bombing of a California abortion clinic in the late 1980s.

It was Newman who moved Operation Rescue to Wichita, Kansas in 2002 to launch a full-court press against George Tiller, the abortion provider ultimately shot dead in his church by a man named Scott Roeder in 2009. While there's no evidence the organization planned or participated in the attack, there are signs Operation Rescue?s rhetoric greatly influenced Roeder. At trial, Roeder said he regularly participated in Operation Rescue protests and even had a signed copy of Newman and Sullenger?s book calling for the execution of abortion providers.
That's the case I saw people talking about with the "imminent" distinction in what constitutes incitement.

The Material Support law is ridiculous, and should be repealed, as evidenced by the fact that it's absurd fundraising medical supplies for Muslims overseas - some of whom might commit terrorist acts at some point - is criminal under the statute, and this is not.

And on that related note, whether or not this is imminent harm... I don't think it fits within the ambit of criminal laws related to verbal threats, the proverbial "yelling 'FIRE' in a crowded theater" types of laws, but if you don't think these assholes know what they're doing, that essentially urging the mental patients that make up their vierwership and readership, to kill abortion doctors is inevitably going to result in one of those clowns actually doing it, you're full of it, man.

GuloRed, for the record, I'm not saying YOU are full of it, just, you know the rhetorical, and the what not.

Yeah. I'm on board with the general labeling of these guy as some class of terrorist. I just don't know what to do with our crappily-written laws on terrorism.

In that one video, the guy says something like "I want them to be afraid tonight." As long as you accept that he has a political motive in mind, that's the textbook definition of terrorism.

when someone gets a couple fundie Christians removed from a domestic US flight because they were "acting suspiciously" I will LOL at the irony of the situation when they protest.

I saw a sticker that said "Reading is FUNdamental." We should ban reading. Just tell people what they need to know.

There was a PP two doors down from my snowboard shop in Boulder with a TCBY Yogurt between. All the young ladies would pull up and park and then go into TCBY ...and then sneak over to PP.

And oftentimes this anti-abortion advocate would park his giant truck with pictures of aborted fetuses in front of PP and consequently my store.

We were able to work with the commercial developer to have him prohibited from parking in the lot because it's technically private property. His solution was to drive around the block over and over and over. One time a guy that worked for me threw a full coke bottle at the truck and through the passenger door.

We had a good laugh. And political opinions aside, that dude was crazy and looking for a fight. He'd call people murderers as they were walking into TCBY!

heh, that's hilarious.

you know, you have some pretty damn good stories, probably the best of anyone who posts here. you should share them more often.

and you don't even live somewhere retarded; CO is generally considered one of the more reasonable states...

is that the same guy who made the video that mocked that "God's Not Dead" movie? That was hilarious, BTW,.

Yep. CultofDusty.

Speaking of God's not Dead...are you ready for the sequel? Coming next year lol

The kid who threw the coke bottle was from Waterford TWP/Pontiac. He and some of his buddies were either CU students as he was or just living in Boulder, but all pretty crazy
