Just heard on MLB that the Tigers are one of six teams rumored to be interested in dealing for the rightie.

Need a hitter over a starter right now and the cubs will ant to much for him in my opinion. If he comes cheap I
say get him..

JV, Fister, Garza, Scherzer, Smyly.

Porcello, either minors or bullpen.

Porcello would probably go in the deal. I would like to see the Tigers grab Soriano or Barney in the deal. DD would probably have to send Porcello, Turner, Avisail Garcia, and Rob Brantly to get the deal done, but it would be worth it. DFA Delmon too.

I don't think so. Graza is not a one, more like a 2 1/2 / 3. Can't imagine he'd be that expensive. And its not like he's lighting it up this season. Pocello and a tier b prospect would be my guess.

Not with the limited market, unless Grienke is on the market too, Garza's price will be sky high because he is a good pitcher in his prime.

Good pitchers, and we'll talking 2 1/2 - 3 here, he's certainly never been a one doesn't deserve a top ten baseball prospect. He'd be a nice addition but he certainly doesn't deserve top talent, even in a limited market.

It's not whether he deserves one or not, it's what he will cost.

I'm not saying they won't ask for a ton. But a Turner for either one would be a bad trade.

I hope we don't make a move for a SP until after we get at least 1 corner OF and a middle IF.

Garza is not going to get top of the rotation money, no matter who else is on the market.

It would make it impossible to ever move him because of a salary too far above his value.

I agree with Mitch, Garza is a #2 on his best day, mostly a 3 though.

Grienke might get Weaver money though.

I think DD will do all three... I think he will get a second basemen of some kind, and then a starting pitcher who is a veteran... I am not sure he will try and get another outfielder... He has Dirks coming back possibly... I am guessing he will stick it out with
Raburn/Young/and BB... Right now as of today Berry has earned more playing time then all three of theses guys.. Plus we have been hearing the Victor may come back...

I'm feeling you but I am not sure one is really linked to the other.

Well in terms of what's available.

If we blow too much talent getting a guy like Garza or any SP, they leaves less to land a corner OF or 2B/SS.

I'm just prioritizing, right now we need a corner OF worst of all, someone capable of driving in runs and playing serviceable defense.

Victor is August, we can't hold out for that long if we're trying to win the central this year.

IMO, we need to either find someone who wants Young even if we have to eat salary, and maybe send Boesch down if he can't control that sloppy swing.

Ajax, Dirks and Berry sounds good with Raburn and Kelly as backups, but I'm not that sold on Berry yet maintaining this level of performance, and Dirks' injury is a bad one. The best thing would have been for one of Boesch or Young to start hitting but it's looking like that's unlikely.

Rather than Garza or Castro from the Cubs what about Soriano and DeJesus?

Not sure i would want Soriano but I have always liked Dejesus.. This year AS sits at .265/.317/.478/.795 which is better then young but his fielding is suspect.. Davids 2012 stats would nice in the 2 hole .270/.366/.401/.767 and he is a much better fielder.. I remember KC wanted David D. real bad in the off season. Plus he was in the AL last year.. Maybe we could get Garza and Dejesus?

Soriano's almost .800 OPS would be a boost in the 5 spot, his fielding is still better than Boesch or Young.

The problem with Soriano would be salary, he's making $18 million, I was thinking big, but chances are we only get 1 corner OF if we get any.

Garza and DeJesus would be okay, but I'm just not impressed by Garza, never have been. If we go after an SP I'd rather it be someone better, maybe Wandy?

lol i really wanted dejesus too. he'd have been perfect for what we needed in the offseason (OBP and defense in a corner OF spot)

I'll preface this by saying that I'd much rather see us get a middle infielder and/or another starter over a corner OF, but I'm not sure they are mutually exclusive of one another. That said, Young and Boesch have been brutal, and so have Raburn and Kelly, so we could definitely use some help out there too.

Soriano is a very poor defender too. He's right on par with Boesch and Young in terms of having a negative dWAR. He's slightly better offensively, but not by a very large margin. Look at his last four seasons of stats and don't get caught up with the name. In that span of time, he's a below average player just like Young and Boesch are. Beyond all that, he's paid a TON of money. Soriano is about the last thing we need on this team. I'd much rather have DeJesus than Soriano.

One guy who might be a decent get if he can stay off the DL is Carlos Quentin. He's also a poor defender, but his bat seems to make up for that. He's got a career .845 OPS which is considerably better than Soriano, Young, DeJesus or Boesch. If (huge IF) he can stay healthy, he's a 30HR/100RBI guy. I'd deal with the same level of poor defense you'd get from Young or Boesch from one of the corner OF spots if we got the added offense Quentin would provide. Again, not ideal, but he'd be an improvement over the slugs out there now.

Another guy who could be interesting would be Francouer. He's a decent all around player who plays nearly every day, he's got a rocket launcher for an arm, and he knows AL pitching well. If he could be had cheap, I'd be for it.
