Supposedly was going to declare by mid-end October. Anything new?

Nope, all is quiet. Been checking daily. Keep tuning in to the UM hoops thread. I've been updating in there.

This is all Mlive had today... Keeping my fingers crossed.

he Mitch McGary sweepstakes: Breaking down the field.

Brewster Academy power forward Mitch McGary is expected to make one of the biggest decisions of his life this week.
And in doing so, he

All the info is in the UMHOOPS thread. Should be noted Mcgary has wanted UM all along it seems. His AAU teammate GRIII is going to UM. His parents seem to be the ones who are pushing Duke. The stuff about kids going into the draft isn't a big thing either because most people are expecting McGary to be a 1 and done. He wants to play NOW wherever he goes so I'm sure any school still in the running has promised him that much.

Things are getting better and better. just read this on MGo

"Just seen this from the Rivals Duke Insider expert.

Sounds like the field has conceded Mitch McGary to Michigan. Nothing official yet -- but all signs point to The Wolverines landing McGary"

I really hope we can get this kid. He would be a huge get for the program. The first blue chip player is the hardest.

Mods on scout are waving the checkered flag. I'll wait to (hopefully) celebrate on Thursday.

I really want Mitch to come to Michigan really bad...LOL

That sounds better... I am doing a ton of things on ebay this week and I keep going back and forth and have not posted much... But your right that did sound bad....Plus most of the stuff I post is around 3 am sometimes or later... No excuses...

Bob, I know what you mean, but that sounded so very wrong.

Just to play devil's advocate, if Mitch is as good as all the hype, what's the likelihood this kid has a monster season and goes pro after his Freshman year?

Extremely likely and almost expected by a lot of people. Either way its huge for UM to get a kid with can't miss pro talent. It could sky rocket the amount of blue chips that begin to at least look into Michigan that otherwise wouldn't and also gives us an advantage in recruiting against MSU that we haven't had in some time. If kids believe other big time players would be willing to come to UM they won't hesitate in the future. With Manny Harris doing what he did on a national level, Morris being drafted by LA, Hardaway getting national attention and assumingly drafted one day, and now hopefully Mcgary, high school kids have to give UM a 1st and 2nd look I would think. Who knows how good some of these other guys like Stauskas, Burke, Brundidge, Smot, and GRIII will be as well. UM could have more NBA talent through there doors from 09-13 than they have in total for quite some time.

Just set the DVR. I'll be on the road when it happens.

Then again, the show starts at 5, odds are pretty decent they'll tease the shit out of it and he won't announce until the end.

Good point from a recruiting standpoint. I just hate to see kids go to a college for 1 year and then bolt for the pros.

I do as well, but the positives for a program who isn't used to big names coming around are countless.

Even if McGary is one and done and he goes pro all Michigan coaches have to do is coach him up and allow him to grow as a player. If solid growth occurs and he plays well there will be more recruits knocking on the door in the following years as they will want the chance to be coached up by Michigan and have a shot at the pros. If he leaves then the door is open for another big man to come in and that recruit may look at McGary's production and hope that he can take over his role on the court. Obviously many good things to come if McGary picks Michigan! Expectations will go through the roof for this young team though if he comes to Michigan!

Plus, there's always a chance he likes it at Michigan and decides to stay for longer, you never know

That is IF he picks Michigan...

The anticipation is killing me...I cannot even watch unfortunately. Really hope he picks Michigan. Reporters say he has been leaning towards Michigan but he said otherwise in his blog entry yesterday and stated that he still did not have a "favorite"...Sitting here and waiting for the news to pop on the internet is frustrating! LOL
