Detroit LionsRecord: 10-6 | Top needs: CB, LOT/G, LB, DE, RB, C, S, TE
Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, AlabamaScenario

1: Upgrade at corner if Gilmore and Kirkpatrick are on the board.
Scenario 2: Take the best available pass-rusher, which in this case is Upshaw. The Lions could continue to build their defensive line as the strength of the team with Upshaw's power and pass-rush ability.
Scenario 3: Detroit needs to keep Stafford upright, and Adams has the size, agility and length teams look for in a left tackle. Consistency is a question, but Adams has top-15 talent, and having a veteran tackle such as Jeff Backus to learn from could help him maximize his talent.
Scenario 4: Fill a need at corner with Jenkins, who would be a gamble but is the second-best cover corner in the draft.

failing to take a OT in round 1 is asking for trouble...they've gotten away with it now for 2 years....it's time , Cherilus is also on the last year if his deal and they have shown no interest in extending him.

OT is the pick at #23

agreed slick...martin was taken the pick before us in this mock. I dont think the value is there to take Adams though...definitely wouldnt be BPA imo....tough call. If martin is there i think you grab him.

With Upshaw and a healthy Fairley we would have the best Dline in the NFL. Stafford - Keep you head on a swivel bud.

Not if they don't like the guys there....I've heard some doubt that Martin can make it in the NFL as a LT, and Adams sounds soft....they won't reach, so if they don't have high grades on those two, they won't take one.

"The more Courtney Upshaw talked (in the interview process), the more I got scared. He has a lot of distractions in his life. There are a lot of concerns there. We need an edge guy, but we wouldn't touch him in the first (round). I'd have hesitations in the second where we're picking, after hearing him talk about grabbing his girlfriend by the hair."

The article talks about a few more guys that may be of Lions' interest as well: Zeitler, Gilmore, Polk.

just an opinion shooter...I fully expect Martin to be on the board at #23and him to be a Lion and starting at the LT spot opening day 2013.

Does he play in 2012?

I don't see OT being the pick at all at #23. I just don't see any that will be there that is worth the pick. The best lineman that might be available is Glenn and he is the only one worth the pick, IMO. I think BPA is most likely gonna be a CB and it just so happens to fill a need. I think O-Line is much better value in the 2nd and 3rd in this draft.

Right now I think Gilmore, Kirkpatrick, or maybe even Jenkins is the pick at #23. Mark Barron is an option too, but I doubt he gets to us.

Also just read this on Martin earlier

Pro Football Weekly's Nolan Nawrocki expects Stanford OT Jonathan Martin to be "considerably overdrafted" in two weeks.
"I don't think he has left tackle feet or right tackle power," Nawrocki said of Martin. "I look at him as a fourth-round-type project, but he's getting looks in the second round and possibly late in the first. He will be considerably overdrafted." SI's Tony Pauline has reported that NFL opinions on Martin range "all over draft boards." He projects as a top 20-40 pick.

I'm not a big fan of him at all, hes pretty much Jason Fox without the injury concerns, and thats not worth a first rounder.

I'm not saying he's not worth it...just saying that they won't force it. Not for OT or any position

Martin would be great at RT and as a hopeful LT of the future. Fills a big need imo. Would he be BPA....i dunno...i think a lot of very talented people could fall to us at 23. Depends if they go strictly BPA or focus on one side of the ball or the other. Need would be Oline or secondary help. BPA could very well be DE. Best case scenerio is Glenn falls to us and we get BPA and fill RG or RT spot.

Martin would be a dream pick for me. Not sure he is that future all pro type guy but I see him as more of a backus type who starts for the next 10-15. With the 23rd pick i'll take that in a heartbeat.

Offense is very good even with a crap OL. If BPA is bewteen OT or CB, I say they go CB.

Barron will be gone, there's no LB worth that pick (not even Kuechly, since they'd play him on the outside...he's a MLB), so IMO BPA will be OL, DL, or CB. That pretty much coincides with their needs.

Other option that ppl on here don't talk about much is trading down. Maybe someone really likes Hightower and wants to jump Pitt for him. They wanted to trade down last year until Fairley fell. Unless someone they really love falls to them, I think they'll explore it.

Martin a 4th round project....that dudes high as fuck when he wrote that....dude kept Luck pretty clean for 2 years , I'll take the short comings in the run game and strength....that will come after a year in an NFL program , his pass protection skills are elite....good enough for me at 23.

Cordy Glenn or Barron there would be a dream....I dont see either lasting though.

I'm still high on Zabrie Sanders in the 2nd round.

He has the feet to play LT, not at an elite level maybe, but at a very good level, in the NFL and the power and technique to play RT in the NFL. Plus, I heard he was a center in high school and was actually recruited as a center, so he could play there as well.

I like the versatility of a guy who could line up anywhere on the O-line they want him too, and push for the starting job. Take him in the 2nd, and weakest man on the line goes straight to the bench.

My guess is he would take over for Gosder for a year or two, and then move to LT when Backus leaves, assuming we don't draft an elite LT next year.
