"I have not been offered any job nor is there a deal in place," Meyer said in a statement. "I plan on spending Thanksgiving with my family and will not comment on this any further."

More of that typical "coach speak". Shades of Les Miles. There has been "no official offer" and there is "no official deal" but he will be the coach "after spending Thanksgiving with his family" is how I read that.

He was asked on the air during the M-NU game and he said about the same thing.

I'm sure they are discussing things. As with all discussions, they aren't final, until they are final. Michigan's AD had discussions with Jim Harbaugh and Les Miles. After discussing things with them and Brady Hoke, he decided to go with Brady Hoke. At any time, discussions can go south for any reason and the deal won't go down.

Either way, I'm not worried. I don't care if Ohio* gets Urban as their coach. I wasn't impressed by the guy when he was at Florida. Now he is going to come into a sanctioned, crippled program and try to rebuild it. Yes, rebuild. Ohio* is a mess and the sanctions haven't even come down yet. For the life of me, I can't figure why he would give up his announcing job to go to Columbus, but its his choice. He'll try to bring his spread offense into the B1G up north. We already know how that goes down. It wasn't just RichRod's ineptness that messed things up. We saw how the spread works against B1G defenses. We saw how the spread works in B1G weather. He'll try to bring those Florida boys up north and they won't be able to take the cold. He'll get some recruits out of Ohio, of course, but Michigan and a few other schools are making inroads in Ohio right now. The pro style players won't want to play at Ohio* (like Brionte Dunn has already hinted) for a spread coach like Urban Meyer. That means even more of them will pick Michigan.

Bring on Urban Meyer at Ohio*!

Yeah but these days it's more about what people don't say.

I really don't care. I mean they're going to get someone in there who's probably a big name and OSU is likely going to get further handicapped by some sort of additional NCAA penalty. I don't think OSU will dip as low as we did with OSU but I don't think, no matter who they bring in, that they'll be as dominant over us as Tressel was.

... .

Translation: there's no formal or informal offer yet, and I'd prefer my personal business remains personal, so I'll use the coming holiday as an excuse to refuse to discuss this further.

Would like him to answer a question regarding whether there has been ANY contact between him and ohio personnel, or persons hired on behalf of ohio (e.g. sleazy local boosters they send to "feel him out"), regarding a coaching position at ohio.

My guess is he would not answer THAT question.

I've said it before, I'll say it again ....he was on radio here ahead of the Utah v CSU game (when Sonny Lubick had CSU in the Top 15 and it was a rivalry) when coaching Utah. He was asked point blank about the then open noter dame job, due to this infamous 'clause' we've all heard about his contracts over the years.

He went out of his way to not only deny he had interest in ND, but to go on and on about how much he and his family loved Utah and how he wasn't leaving. He was Florida's head coach a week or two later...

Nick Saban bluntly said he would not be the coach at Alabama about 24hours from being the coach at Alabama.

It's what makes me laugh at minute-by-minute updates, as if what's on twitter or any website really matters. Of course Urban Meyer is The next guy in Columbus, he and the rest of those egomaniac coaches just can't stand the fact that people already know it.

Besides, what sort of breaking news is it for Meyer to want to spen T'giving with his family..? They won't announce he's the new coach until after MICHIGAN anyways, right along with announcing a two year Bowl ban and loss of scholarships.

hmmm... yeah, I forgot about the bowl ban.

I know there was a loss of schollies announced (overshadowed by news about the degenerates at Penn St.), but will there be more schollies lost in addition to a bowl ban?

in regards to your other point, I think Meyer's aware that his reputation (or what's left of it...) would REALLY start to suffer if he were caught in another blatant lie about where he's going, hence the careful parsing of his statement here.

Heck, look at our searches throughout the years. Miles adamantly denied all the stuff that was said about him talking to us - and it turns out most of it was true based on this John U Bacon book. So I don't listen to what the coaches say very much. Obviously they aren't going to tell us the truth. Even when it comes down to our own team we don't know much. Hoke said Mrob was out with an injury for like 4 weeks and it turns out he was accused of robbing someone. They're kind of in the business of doing that kind of stuff.

It was only 5 scholarships over a 3 year span (I think) and it was self imposed. We still have to see what the NCAA comes down with. I'm guessing there will be more added.

M&B... you start out by citing an example of a coach telling the truth, then saying that's why you don't listen to what coaches say "very much."

THEN you say "Even when it comes down to our own team we don't know much.", but a single instance of Hoke either misspeaking or intentionally misleading the fans/press hardly means we don't know much about our own team.

You = illogical person

This may be the first time I've ever defended M&B, but what he said was that Miles LIED about our contact with him and that's why he doesn't listen to what coaches say. That makes perfect sense.

Miles didn't tell the truth? I said he lied and everything he lied about ended up being true. So what Urban is saying probably has some, if not all, truth to it. I'm not sure I understand where you think I messed up there?

My second example is just an example of how coaches work in today's media-driven world. Fact is we really don't know much of the "behind the scenes" of Michigan Football. Another great example recently was Hoke purposely giving a scout team member Kovacs' number to wear during the bye-week because Kovacs got injured. We didn't know until an hour before kickoff that he'd been injured for the past two weeks. I'm not saying that's a bad thing but, in general, coaches tend to lie out their teeth until they absolutely have to tell you something; hence the phrase "coach speak". You think they're giving you information, but really they aren't.

The point of all of this - is that when things like these rumors about Urban come out....most of the time there's at least some truth to them no matter what Urban himself is saying.

The loss of scholarships that came out when the Sandusky story broke was merely a proposal by Ohio* to the NCAA. Simultaneously, the NCAA added possible "Failure to Monitor" charges and have yet to make any ruling (that I am aware of).

I'd suspect Urban Meyer and his agent, in cooperation with Ohio* will be immediately notified by the NCAA what sanctions are coming down and in the end, if it is a 7yr $35M deal, a one or two year Bowl ban won't seem like much.

Brian Kelly lied about noter dame too ...all these guys lie in these situations and Meyer isn't lying when he says there is "no deal in place" but all that means is that he hasn't signed a contract to agree to a deal.

Certainly a "deal is in the works," right Urban??

::)

And apparently Arizona never "contacted Meyer to offer him the job" as ESPN reported ....now we know the UA AD contacted Meyer as a reference for Dick Rod.

Which is what folks have characterized the last contact with Les Miles was ...a courtesy call and check on Hoke.

Yeah, ESPN comes out looking totally stupid with these incorrect reports involving one of their own employees!

And when Urban takes the job, no one will question why he was so obtuse earlier.

There are Ohio* fans who have been using that flight tracker website to track Urban Meyer over the past couple weeks ...the fans ran Kirk Herstreit and family out of town ...the school is about to get dinged by the NCAA and is 6-5 in football.

I'd lie if I were Urban Meyer too.

And what's interesting is that I get a sense that there is a division in the Ohio* fanbase and more than a few who don't want Meyer as the next coach.
