At the end of the season, I heard a lot of talk about the likelihood that M and Ohio* would have a lot of immediate rematches after The Game in the B1G Championship game, but I don't know that I really think that.

With the parity in the B1G, and with the addition of Nebraska, I think a lot more often the winner of The Game is going to knock the loser of The Game OUT of the B1G Championship Game than we'll see a rematch the following week...

Which is cool - it's what the rivalry is all about!

Also that was a big reason the ACC got Miami so it could have FSU v the U in the ACC champ game. That hasn't worked out so good

Right, if you look back I doubt there were too many times when each team was a game + ahead of 3rd place in the big ten. Usually a loss would have knocked the other into a tie at least.

The decision to keep them in separate divisions really was a terrible one. It effectively makes MSU the biggest rival from a practical standpoint, since that game will have more tie-breaker implications. A loss to MSU hurts Michigan's chances of going to a Rose Bowl much more than a loss to Ohio*.

I agree 100%. It was shocking they decided to do this; you'd think the usual 2nd place conference teams like Penn State, UW, and even the newcomer Nebraska would've insisted UM & Ohio be put in the same division, a la Oklahoma & Texas.
