"I went through that last year, so I don't want to do the same thing," Cabrera told reporters Tuesday, according to mlive.com. "Nobody appreciates you when you play hurt, so I'm going to take my time and play when I'm good. I played hurt a lot of years here in Detroit. They don't appreciate that."

"When you are doing bad, they crush you. They crush you," he said. "They say you're bad, you should go home, you don't deserve anything, you're old. I say, 'OK, I'm done playing hurt.' Now I take my time."


Translation: I'm getting paid $30M a year whether I play or not, the team sucks, why rush back?

I have a feeling that this marriage is going to end badly.

Wasn't general fan sentiment always don't come back until you're 100%? I know I hated seeing him limp around the batter's box and 1st base. While I don't sympathize, I'm glad he's come to this conclusion.

that is my feeling on the matter. There are some on this board that thought a 50% Miggy was better than the scrub that takes his place. I almost always disagree with that, especially in the regular season. Playing hurt will usually lead to other injuries or just not getting healed.

If he should take shots at anyone it should be the coward training staff and coaches that kept letting him come back before he was fully healthy which led to him not being close to 100% for any part of the last 3-4 years. They should have protected him from himself many times over the last few years.

I agree...if he was being 100% honest with them. But we don't know if he was telling them he felt OK just to get on the field when he really wasn't. I think it is likely that is the case most of the time. Athletes want to be out there playing.
