Mcshays latest mock has us taking Jack at #16 overall, at least 1 mock has us taking Jaylon Smith in round 4. Jack is looking at possible micro fracture surgery, Smiths future is up in the air.

Both were projected to be top 5 or 10 guys. I don't think I would take Jack @15 but Smith in the 4th is a risk I would be willing to take.

No thanks in first round. Smith in 4th would be worth the risk.

Rd 1-3 picks need to start this year. ...too many holes on this team.

Man, I don't know... Jack is one heck of a player, if not the best one in the draft. If he is there at 16, you almost have to take him, he is too good to pass up. I doubt he falls that far. I would almost cry if we get him. He is a difference maker. You could not knock Quinn for taking him. Again, no way he falls that far.

I my choices are Jack in Rd. 1 or Smith in Rd. 4... I take Smith.

Both are too risky for an early pick, so the only way I want either is the latest pick we can use. In this scenario, a 4th.

One of the good teams that don't need him to play this year will pounce all over Smith in the 2nd round. No chance that he gets past the 3rd. Too much talent for him to fall that far unless there are long term concerns about his injury.

Id love if they took smith in the 4th. Ive had a man crush on this kid since he was freshman for the Irish. I know there is a (big) injury risk, but if he can get healthy I think he can be a franchise player for us down the line. I dont think you can say that about many players in the draft - yet alone a 4th rounder.

Not sure I want another pick who not only coming off surgery but potential for microfracture surgery down the line. That's not good. Just draft a healthy body.

Didn't these guys just learn their lesson with Broyles and Best?

Take someone who is relatively healthy and stop overthinking things.

We could have a guy who doesn't play for a year, maybe longer, and a guy who might only play a year. Sign me up..

The big difference is those two were taken in Round 1 and early round 2. The first 3 rounds of the draft are where you can least afford to miss on a prospect, as they make up the bulk of your starters.

Round 4 is the earliest you can take a 'chance' on a player, as the likely hood of them being a contributor is much lower. If he ends up never getting healthy, you can live with it. But if he ends up performing at even 75% of his ability, then you have the steal of the draft.

This team needs starters everywhere. And you can find starters in Round 4 still. Maybe not as many, but they are there.

How about Jack? He's a risk, a big risk.

I heard something about Jack having a short career because the knee issue he has right now. Give me Smith in the 5th if he is there.

You and I are not only on the same page but same word same sentence!

Microfracture surgery. That is often a career ender. He's already said he needs it.

No way you can take him at 16. Thats not rolling the dice. Thats rolling a blunt and then drafting after you smoke it.
