M's 2015 defense

Remind me, did Peppers get a redshirt last year? Is he a freshman this season? And when can he declare for draft?

Come on, any mention of officiating on this board leads to complaining about the calls in the MSU game. ...

that may have something to do with all you MSU fans jumping into every thread and trolling/whining/blathering about anything you perceive to be relevant to the MSU/UM game

cute cliche, I don't expect to convince you otherwise. Conklin forced Bolden to lead with his helmet and not use his arms to break his fall. that damn Jack Conklin, he's sneaky like that.

Johnny, Mack, and I do comment on threads related to MSU, you have us there.

I think next year is the last one we get out of him. He's too talented to not bolt.

Here's a link to the actual play in question: LINK TO THE ACTUAL PLAY, WITH SLOW MOTION REPLAY OF CONTROVERSIAL CALL.

The key part of the replay is @ the 0:45 second mark. You can see #74 clearly push Bolden downward into his QB with his left arm. Bolden is off balance the entire time, heading toward Cook both under his own power, at first, and then with the pull & eventual push from #74.

Certainly, it's possible one could take advantage of such a situation to take a cheap shot at a QB, but I hardly think any refs can, or should make that call, especially since: 1) there's no way Bolden landed on Cook very hard, and 2) he even put his arms down to brace his fall. he didn't nosedive into Cook, although, yes, his facemask hit Cook.

And of course he was pushed into him; even if he threw his arms up, the push from #74 would've forced him into Cook. Seems like a mitigating condition; ejection should only be for really nasty stuff. Bad, bad call that saw our defensive captain & leading tackler sent off for more than 1/2 the game, and as a senior, his last MSU game as a player... Should never have happened.

Link to ESPN article on it.

hope this ends all the BS back and forth.

we can continue to beat this dead horse all day. the definition of targeting includes a hit on a defenseless player, I think we can all agree that Cook was defenseless in that he had completed his slide and was clearly on the ground well before the hit occurred. The other criteria is to lead with the crown of the helmet, which Bolden clearly did.

at the 45 second mark, it clearly looks like Conklin threw him into Cook, you have to look at slow motion of the original camera angle to see Conklin holding Bolden with his right arm and his limp left arm come off of Bolden as he accelerates into Cook. At that angle and slow motion, you see the clear helmet to helmet contact as well, that's obstructed from the field view. At the field view, you do see Bolden look directly at Cook and lead with his helmet, I'd bet the replay refs looked at both angles and upheld the call based on that criteria. This is all laid out in the Comparoni video that I posted earlier, you can see why it was upheld.

There was no "hit." There was a "fall upon."

I swear when you look at the Zapruder film you claim Jackie was shot in the head.

Falling upon a defenseless player while leading with the crown of the helmet is targeting. Just so you know.

I guess the smart play will be for offensive players to start throwing defensive players at the QB while he is defenseless. At the very least you get a 15 yard penalty and at best you get the defensive player kicked out of the game.

Well that may be the case but that's not what happened.

been through this a million times but supposedly conklin threw him with that limp left arm? forced Bolden to make eye contact with Cook and lead with the crown of his helmet. he also forced bolden to not break the fall with his arm. I guess the plan should be to hold a defensive player up with one hand, somehow thrust him with a limp left arm and force him to lead with the crown of his helmet.

sbee, the only thing limp is your dick. you don't have the guts to admit the refs fucked up on that call. the entire world of independent sports analysts have called the refs out for fucking that call up, but you continue to defend them. you are fucking limp dick clown show.

generalize much? the entire world? you're the one searching and searching for excuses, first it was the personal foul on the punt, now it's the targeting ejection. You just can't deal with the fact that you lost, you have to find something to cling to that's not your teams fault in your opinion. You aren't on this board lamenting your teams inability to run the football, your inability to execute a punt, your coach's decision to have 9 guys block 11, it's the refs, right? the refs lost the game for you. typical crybaby, the officiating was shitty in this game but it hurt MSU as much as it helped MSU.
