MSU #2 in AP, #2 in Coach's

Guess the voters were more impressed than the fans.

I think people saw Cook and Burbridge looking unstoppable more than they saw us struggle to run against 9 man fronts and trouble stopping AF's gimmick offense.

We got 7 first place votes in the AP and 3 in the Coach's.

As much as I really don't think we're a top 2 team.......nobody else really has a real beef to be above us.

OSU #1, MSU #2, ND #6, pretty much a nightmare for UM.

Now we have 2 key players out and how do we address the "letting up factor" We get up early on teams only to let off the gas the 2nd half. Not just this year but the last several. Nice you can squeak out wins but is it an issue of purposely letting up Vs "just not playing well" the 2nd halfs of these games?

Are those the rankings?

I sleep like a baby.

I clicked on this link thinking "Sparty #2? Good for Sparty. If it can't be Michigan it might as well be the Spartans in week 3."

I've seen Michigan ranked highly in week 3 many, many times in my life.

Looking like the road to the national championship will be finally and once again going through Coach Jim's and my hometown.

.

I want osu to keep winning into November and for us to stay #2. I don't want all of the attention going to the players heads

No way MSU stays number 2 because we don't play any ranked teams until OSU. Would be nice to have Northwestern on the schedule this year...

Ole miss jumping to 3 is the biggest joke I've ever seen. You beat an overrated Bama team with no QB and you jump 12 spots. That's laughable! And how is Bama ranked ahead of Oregon? Give me a break. They'll lose at least 3 games this season. The only legit team in the SEC is LSU.

Cash drive everything in college football. OSU and is being 1 and 2 when we meet will be a huge story and the powers that be will push for that.

Hmmm, yeah Oregon loses on the road to a higher ranked team than Bama loses to at home. More SEC poll bias at work.

Also LSU shooting up to #6 beating an Auburn team that many felt shouldn't even have been ranked after last week.

But think about Northwestern. They beat Stanford by 10 and controlled the game against them. So people think Northwestern might be just ok while Stanford plummets. So then Stanford goes out and beats #6 USC by 10 on the road. Does it mean that maybe Stanford is still pretty good and then that Northwestern is actually pretty good too? Nope it apparently means none of them are any good. Wonder what the rankings would look like if any of the 3 teams in that scenario are SEC teams.

We don't play any ranked teams between now and then but MD has won his last 30 games as a ranked team vs non ranked teams. Those wins are not a given but we don't have a history of being upset. A lot of teams will fall from the ranks of the undefeated between now and then

just like MSU. Ole Miss has one of the best wins of the year. Hard to make an argument for a team below them to be #3

At this point we deserve to be a top 5, certainly top 10 team, that's clear. Beyond that I don't really care much about the number. I'm far more concerned that an "elite" offensive line couldn't generate more than 77 yds on the ground and didn't pass protect very well either against a team like Air Force.

During the game I was extremely frustrated that we ran into AF's 8, 9, and 10 man fronts over and over. They'd have 8 guys in the box and our pre-snap motion would bring 1 or 2 more guys into the box, looked poorly designed, I think we would have been better served by spreading them out and then running. And I thought we were telegraphing our play book.

But I think we also wanted to run no matter what to try to keep our defense off the field some. The play book was very conservative with this in mind.

But we do miss Kieler, hearing he'll be back for the Big Ten season.

What were the stats on QB hurries, knockdowns and sacks? I was watching the game and my kids at the same time and haven't had a chance to rewatch paying closer attention yet. From what I saw, the team looked pretty uninspired, the line in particular. I guess it's a good sign that they can go through the motions and still handily win games they're supposed to win.

We allowed our first 3 sacks of the season as AF blitzed often. It was an uninspired performance. But remember, we were up 35-7 in this game and then it looked like we started sleep walking.

In good news, our 2nd and 3rd strong guys are getting tons of reps so far. Andrew Dowell looks like a 3 year starter at the STAR LB spot. Shane Jones is making plays. Jalen Watts-Jackson is looking like a contributor. Reschke and Fry are good LBs as sophomores.
