Name from the past- Matt Guitetrez

I remember him and remember how folks thought he should've started over Henne or could've but I recall he was plagued by injury a bit.

Gutierrez was the clear starter and Henne simply demonstrated he was better in practice, according to the coaches.

I remember going to the home opener when Henne got the surprising start against Miami OH. All I heard leading up was that Gutierrez would be the starter. Somehow, a large group of Michigan fans around me were saying Gutierrez had to have shoulder surgery the week of the opening game. Not sure how they knew that, but maybe they were right because Clayton Richard played ahead of Gutierrez whenever Henne came out in 2004.

That was the era I was going to school. Chris Perry/Henne/Braylon etc. Good times!

My older cousin would call me and ask if I'd seen the "bald-headed phenom" around campus much. I do remember there were a lot of people thinking he should start over Henne.

Gutierrez played High School at de la Salle in Concord California, and the team was undefeated his entire high school career.

that's what I recall and the Carr staff was very tight-lipped about the situation. These days there would have been more coverage of such an injury, IMO
