Nashville 2 Detroit 0

Imagine if Helm had half the offensive skill of Stacey Roest.

Coulda at least been 2-1, another Helm breakway (rare the past couple years due to decreasing speed) and no attempt at a move. Just straight up shot at the goalie as the angle is cut.

Tim Peel is also unemployed as an NHL referee. Early retirement, apparently, since this was his last season.

With 15:04 left in the second period, Predators forward Viktor Arvidsson was called for tripping Red Wings defenseman Jon Merrill in the offensive zone, even though replays showed that Merrill embellished his fall to help draw the call. Peel made the penalty call from around center ice.

With 12:42 remaining in the second period, the Nashville broadcast captured audio from Peel saying "it wasn't much but I wanted to get a f---ing penalty against Nashville early."

It's not the NBA referee scandal, but, still ...

NEW YORK - National Hockey League Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell announced today that Referee Tim Peel, following his comments during the game last night between the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators, no longer will be working NHL games now or in the future.

"Nothing is more important than ensuring the integrity of our game," Campbell said. "Tim Peel's conduct is in direct contradiction to the adherence to that cornerstone principle that we demand of our officials and that our fans, players, coaches and all those associated with our game expect and deserve. There is no justification for his comments, no matter the context or his intention, and the National Hockey League will take any and all steps necessary to protect the integrity our game."

Was there even anything for the zebras to do a makeup call for?

Arvidsson didn't even touch Merrill though and called the zebra out going to the penalty box.

If the guy wasn't retiring next month, this wouldn't have happened. Only difference now he doesn't have a small public gathering/video tribute in his final game.

Nothing changes.

Zebras will fuck with teams/players whenever they want. We have all seen it with how they fucked with Holmstrom for over a decade. Think those zebras ever got repremanded? Given that shit went on until Holmstrom retired the answer is fuck no!

It's a fast paced game and zebras will miss tons of shit, the standard of reffing will change throughout the game let alone the season. Or season vs playoffs.

At least in playoffs the refs with complaints/major fucks against them tend to get cut from advancing to next round.

I read a story it was about a previous call. I didn't watch the game.

"Long-time NHL official Tim Peel learned that the hard way after being caught on a hot mic on a local broadcast in Tuesday's clash between the Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings, admitting that he found a reason to call an infraction against the home team ? in this case Nashville ? presumably to make up for a perceived injustice earlier in the game."
