From his home country I believe. I don't have a link, just heard on espn. Damn.

Sorry I'm a little confused...Nationals C?

Heard this yesterday. Weren't Johan Santana's mom and another player's wife kids also kidnapped there in the last few years? Pretty sure those were both ransom kidnappings with no injuries. This sounds like the same deal.

Ahh I instantly thought "Captain" when I saw C for some reason. My bad..just had a brain fart.

why is this not a bigger story on ESPN? i was looking at my local news and it had a link, but i change it to ESPN and the only story they are talking about is paterno. WTF? a major league baseball player gets kidnapped and nobody is talking about it?

Wilson Ramos kidnapped in Venezuela.
from espn

Police last year said that 618 kidnappings were reported in 2009, and the numbers have grown rapidly in recent years. In 1998, when President Hugo Chavez was elected, just 52 kidnappings were reported. Security experts say the real number of kidnappings today is much higher because many cases aren't reported to authorities.

In November 2009, the 56-year-old mother of Victor Zambrano, who retired after a seven-year major league career, was rescued in a commando-style operation three days after she was kidnapped. The former pitcher's cousin, Richard Mendez Zambrano, had been kidnapped a few days earlier, and was later killed.

In June 2009, Colorado Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba's brother-in-law and 11-year-old son were kidnapped and released a day later.

The mother of former player Ugueth Urbina, who was a two-time All-Star pitcher while playing for six teams, spent more than five months in captivity until she was rescued in early 2005.

Venezuela has one of Latin America's highest murder rates, and violent crime has worsened in recent years. As ransom kidnapping has soared, the government passed a revised law in 2009 that stiffened prison sentences for kidnapping and also allows authorities to freeze the bank accounts of victims' families to prevent them from paying any ransom.

Like you said its all about the scumbag Paterno. Not watching that shit no more.

Beez' - this isn't hockey, lol.

Sadly, kidnapping is somewhat of a booming industry in Venezuela.

Though it's usually foreigners, and not nationals (no pun intended).

I think it's anybody with cash they can extort. Doesn't seem to be murder/kidnappings like are now common in Mexico.

I seem to remember reading about Ramos several years ago, when he was still with the Twins club, I think during his first game in the majors, after being called up from the minors to replace the injured Mauer, he went 5 for 5 with a couple of homers or something like that. Mauer really hasn't been the same player that he was ever since, but the Twins still traded Ramos anyway.

iirc he was the catcher the twins traded to get mattcapps in 2010.

This is correct KC

I don't understand why MLB players from central america continue to go back to these poverty stricken countries. Maybe a few of them need to read that book that was then this is now.

Hopefully he will have learned his lesson when this is all finished

They all get warned about shit like this. Maybe they have family back there or feel they owe so thing back. That being said, I'm curious how these kidnappers work. Do they have a gun on him at all times,'tied up or are they playing MLB 11 the Show on the PS3 while having a nice steak dinner?

I didn't even realize they had Commando's in Venezuelan. Good ending though.
