I like Michigan

I would've preferred Buffalo. Now I expect an ugly game that ends after 12:30am...

A friend told me Texas Tech has a better defense than we do (apparently they were 1st in defensive efficiency, we're 2nd), and a more consistent offense.

but according to the Freep our offense is better.

I also like us better in this matchup, as I think we played a tougher schedule, and the Big XII was much weaker than usual this year. But I hope we have a good gameplan... if it is a defensive struggle, points will be hard to come by.

kinda makes me think of that UH game in last year's tourney.

then again, if we come out and shoot well, we could cruise. that would be nice.

I will preface by saying I didn't watch any Texas Tech games in the regular season so I have very little to go by other than what I have read, and saw in the first two games of the tournament. Specifically yesterday their defense definitely looked legit. They made Buffalo (a prolific scoring team) look silly with the way they disrupted their rhythm.

Our defense should be ready to go as well. Need as many easy buckets on them as we can get, so I think turnovers will be an important stat. Texas Tech also grabbed a ton of offensive rebounds yesterday it seemed, so have to be johnny on the spot on the glass.

I watched the first half of the game. Neither team played that well. TT gave up a 13 point lead in the first half. My impression was that Michigan could beat either of them. In looking looking at the box score/game flow on ESPN, it looks like Buffalo came out of the 1st half cold and couldn't recover. Hopefully, Michigan can build a lead and hang on to it rather than giving it up and letting the opposition back into the game. GO BLUE!

I think their d was statistically better a few weeks ago. I don't know about now

They did indeed have a much easier schedule in the weak big 12

I think that means that Michigan's D is better

I hope Michigan's O is better against their D, than their O is against Michigan's D

They made Buffalo look like Crap! Buffalo averaged like 85 points a game this year, but did they do it against anyone of note? I don't know. They played a MAC schedule.

Texas Tech crushed Buffalo on the boards, but as I watched the game, I saw that they talked about how this was not the norm and that TT is a bad rebounding team.

Of course, us Michigan fans in Michigan get screwed on the time again. Going to be up until 12:30am at night on a work night.

It is though, a typical start time for a west coast sports event.

Meanwhile, did you play the earlier/later start time line for this game?

Well, I would bet that it will start later than this time. It always seems to.

a google search for "avg. NCAA basketball game length" says it's only 1 1/2 hours.

I assume they cram more commercial breaks in tournament games, so maybe they go a little over 2?

Still this should definitely be over by midnight, even if it starts 15-20
mins late

Michigan's first round game started 27 minutes late

games typically last about 2 hours

Say this game actually starts about 10:15. That puts the game lasting until about 12:15am. Most people can't go right to bed after an exciting basketball game.

So a number of nerd monk math boards on the Internet confirm but ESPN has calculated, historically #2 is slightly better than a 60 to 40 favorite over #3.

You have to scroll down a little bit on the link to find the matchup history, but you can just take my word for it if you want to, #2 is at .625 winning% in this matchup.

EDIT: Just double check and this is through 2006. You would think ESPN would do a better job of keeping that updated-it is freaking ESPN, it?s not some nerd mathematician board.

That has to be for all games - seems like you can pretty much count on 2 hours for any televised game when you add in pre/post-game coverage, plus an extra 8 minutes for the additional TV timeouts (2 per half) to the gametime, halftime, FTs, dead ball situations, etc it's basically 2 hours without any OT.

Just don't go to work on Friday. That is clearly the responsible thing to do.

I was home sick last friday, because of a Dr appt.

I could do it two in a row, but it is frowned on.

I'm just saying that one time we could get the earlier game

Ah, that sucks. Hope you're feeling better. I had Thurs, Fri, and Mon off for the start of the tourney. I have a good amount of friends and family at my house all through opening weekend, so I need Mon to fully recover.

Because of that, I will be going to work tired on Friday. Hopefully a very happy version of tired.

kudos to you

Every year since 2002 I've told myself "Next year I'm going to get all my shit done ahead of time so I can take those days off and watch basketball and drink beer all day."

and then... I don't do any of that.

I've been doing it since my senior year of high school, which is now 18 years running. It's the closest thing I have to religion.
