New NCAA rules for football eligibility

They have made two new rules and they actually make sense.

First a player who wishes to transfer can transfer to any school without permission from their previous school. So no more block lists and stuff like that.

The next rule I really like. A player can now play in up to 4 games and still redshirt that season.

I cant help but wonder if we would have seen McCaffrey last year had these rules been in place then.

Do they still have to sit out a year?

What was the rule before? Were they allowed in any games at all or was it a number less than 4?

Yes you still have to sit out a year of transferring for now. Although they are looking at giving every player the ability to transfer once without sitting out but they havnt passed that yet.

In a game for one play = redshirt burned

The only exception was if they got injured and played in less than a quarter of the season's games. Then they could get a medical redshirt.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new 4 game rule. Essentially everybody can play 4 games then the coaching staff can red-shirt a bunch of players. I wonder if there is a deadline to declare. Some kid that is used sparingly and only gets in 4 games through week 10 could effectively be red-shirted.
