The NRA has 4 million members .. The United States has 310+ million people.. Since when is it OK to let a bully dictate to the rest of us.. Sorry Wayne but you just sealed your organizations fate today.. Talk about everything but the guns themselves... No one i know wants to ban guns but assault weapons Ammo and guns like were used last Friday should be talked about..

He talked about having a data base for the mental ill but did not support any type of data base to track guns and ammo that may have stopped the Aurora shooting in Colorado..The NRA keeps dancing but this time I believe they will be in trouble.. This news conference was all about protecting the gun manufacturers and getting more guns into peoples hand's. Fact is the NRA lost big time in the 2012 elections

EVERYTHING should be on the table not just arming our school administrators...Maybe all schools should have more security.. But everything should be on the table Wayne and that includes legislation that ban's certain types of weapons...

Some states have assault weapon bans but their definition varies. I came across this awhile go, The Volokh Conspiracy, that the bans on assault weapons don't address many of the features that influence how deadly a gun is, such as longer barrels, caliber or type of bullet. Some of the military-style features that assault weapons bans have focused on don't necessarily make the guns more powerful.

So until a group of people get a consensus of what needs to be banned to protect the kids of the world, not sure anything will change.

Maybe David Gregory can nail LaPierre and the NRA and its ridiculous hiding behind the second amendment which was written when muskets were the gun of choice.. There has to be a consensuses of common sense that can we can all agree on and meet in the middle somewhere..

My dad was a NRA member but in 2005 he told them to fuck off because they are nothing but a fundraiser for the republican party.. He was a member since the 40's I believe.. the NRA of the past used to use common sense but not any more... The NRA is all about protecting the gun manufacturers and not people.. An armed police officer @ every school is a knee-jerk reaction, and in these days of increased budget and spending cuts by many if not most school districts, then it is far more likely that more cuts will need to be made in other areas to accommodate/offset the costs of the constant presence of single police officer, who would need to be relieved during lunches and breaks, and substituted for on occasion and will only be able to guard/monitor one entrance @ a time. This psycho apparently shot or busted out a window, and climbed in to shoot those poor kids. A more determined and shrewd monster would/might be able to tape over a window in a more secluded area of a school to gain entrance. A sole cop on duty might be sufficient for most smaller elementary schools for example but maybe not for much larger HS. What about after-school football/basketball practices and night games for example?

Hmm...so...why take down their Facebook page for any length of time, IF the NRA truly believes in what it stands for? Makes them look more suspicious and like they were indirectly involved somehow..maybe Oily Taintz was barking up the wrong tree?

There is no middle ground. Possessing firearms will either be legal or not, eventually. An AR ban is a token gesture of futility that will not stop gun crime, because so few are used in them. I would better respect a movement to repeal the second amendment than an incremental measure to remove a fraction of the weapons that are owned by Americans. 300,000,000 guns by some estimates. 14,000 gun-related homicides in 2011. One in 21,000 guns are involved in a gun-homicide or .000047 percent of guns in the U.S.

A lot is wrong with the NRA but I'm not sure its viable to use "their whole purpose is to give money to the republican party" when more money is being given to the Dems. from people who make violent movies. Because some of these mass shootings in schools in the past are bad people who are mimicking Hollywood movies.

LOL Lanza complained she could not get enough mental help for her nutbag son and yet did you see the house she was living in... She was receiving 250K a year in alimony and yet she had enough time to take her dirt-bag son to shooting ranges instead of paying to get him help.. I guess the NRA taught her well... More guns in the house!!!! And yet her son used one on her...

The 2nd amendment was written when there were muskets and it took over a minute to re-load.. There is a reason the NRA is trying to attract youth with more guns... Their membership is eroding and their solution is more and more guns.. If anyone looked at the NRA press conference and thought That guy was speaking for most American's they are in for a big surprise because it was a sham for the gun manufacturers and that was it.. Everything should be on the table, and that includes a ban on certain types of weapons and ammo and a data base to track all gun sales.. All he wanted was to put a armed guard or arming teachers.. That worked well in Colorado right? I am proud of my father who tore up his NRA membership.. Maybe they should stop pouring money into elections and do some real work.. That goes for everyone on both sides who try and buy elections..

I support having an armed police officer in every school as part of better security plans that every school needs to develop. Every police department/sheriff's depart/constables/other local law enforcement agency needs to make it part of their explicit mission. Most local law enforcement officers work shifts and one of their shifts each week should be at a local school. Increased funding from the federal gov. could be provided to local police depts. in the form of grants to support this (rather than buying armored vehicles). Larger schools will need more officers. Resources have to be redirected. And these officers have to be trained in handling active shooter situations. Teachers must be a trained in how to respond to get their kids in to a safe place in the event that such a terrible thing happens. Asking teachers to carry a gun, or putting a guns in classrooms is insane.

But this should only be part of the response. Sensible gun control measures must also be taken, including increasing the penalties if you fail to secure your guns, or your kid's guns, and they are taken and used in an act such as what happened at Sandy Hook. I don't advocate banning any particular weapon (but I am open to reasoned arguements), but large capacity clips should be banned.

Finally, better psychological means for identifying and dealing with individuals that might potentially carry out such acts have to be developed and implemented. If you think your kid or other relative or friend is showing signs of psychological distress YOU have the responsibility to get your guns into secure location, get them out of your house and to a place that the relative or friend does not have access to. If you don't then YOU should be held responsible for your failure to do so. Finally, if someone you know is showing signs of psychological distress and doing things like seeking access to guns, buying military style clothing, talking about acting out towards a group or institution, YOU need to sound the alarms. In all of these incidents others knew that the individual was behaving strangely. Adam Lanza, or more likely his Mother, bought black military-type clothing. That should have been a red flag to her and others. If a red flag goes up, people must act. People need to start thinking that the unthinkable can happen and must take action.
