For me Baez just has to be better than the last guys we've had, 200k's or not, and it shouldn't be that hard. Goodrum batted .214 and Short was at .140 or some crap like that. And Baez is a better defender.
IMO he has to be much better than those guys because of the contract the Tigers gave him. He's the 5th highest paid SS in MLB. His production needs to be top 10 at the position.
Doesn't work that way unfortunately, the pre arbitration guys get paid less but are more productive, Bo Bichette, Tim Anderson, Tatis, all of those guys are top shortstops and make less than 10m combined due to service time
