Which should help Michigan as much as Sparty winning, or Sparty getting blown out...

Nice attempt to block that punt, though...

I have no idea why they tried to block the punt...I just chalked it up to a Classic Sparty moment, it seems at times they are their own worst enemy.

Dantonio has been living on the edge for years. He has always played with fire with his ST and usually gotten away with it. This time it burnt him. I would have told my team to not get near the punter or even breath on him but it is what it is.

Stupid play in a game we should have won. Oh well, we ddn't get blown out like most thought would. It was obvious that the two best teams in the B10 played last night. Hell of a game.

Did Dantonio really call for the punt-block or is he protecting his player?

Anyone have a clip of that play?

If he did call for a block. Then nobody should be mad at Hoke winning coach of the year.

I would guess he is protecting his player. They were going to get good field position and only need a FG to tie. I can't see him calling for a punt block.

I thought MSU would win before the game began. Wisconsin is not a juggernaut by any interpretation.

As a Michigan fan, I have never found consolation in finishing second to the conference champion, or in even being co-champion when M lost to OSU. But when N beat OSU to claim a share, different story.

I did not see the play live because I had a problem in the house at the moment so i only saw the replay and he may have been blocked into the kicker but still with Martin back there way even come close to the kicker... I did not even know until a hour after the game that Martin had such a good run back.. Tough way to lose...

When I saw it live and then on the replay last night I thought it was a weak call. I saw the vantage point from behind the kicker and it looked like he flopped. When I saw the replay today from the side that the blocker was rushing from, I changed my mind. He was not blocked into the kicker and he hit him pretty good in the hip. The ref had to make that call. It was just a bonehead play.

Well the guy that ran into the kicker got a free shot at punter. He took a chance, its a tough way to lose a game but if he blocks that punt everyone is saying what great play.

Great dive by the punter too

If he wasn't blocked into the punter, why would it be a terrible call? I agree that he wasn't blocked into the kicker. Watching the replay, you can see the UW lineman just waves at him as he goes by, I'm not sure that he even touches him. The guy was off balance and ran into the kicker. Its the proper call.

I'm not sure why everyone says they would have won. I mean, sure there was a better chance, but they still had to score a TD no matter what happened and it seemed like after that penalty Wisconsin just gave up because they knew they had just won and the play didn't matter. Either way Sparty still could have been held to a field goal and that would have just tied the game.

you are right! forgot my train of thought. thought this was an argument from another board, I got the 2 confused. it was the right call.

He returned the ball inside the 5. How would the guys covering the punt know that a guy ran into the kicker?

They might not have won the game right there but going into OT they would have still had a chance.

It would have been hilarious if the punter stepped aside at the 5 yard line and waved the returner into the endzone, knowing that it wouldn't count because of the penalty.
