Not to devalue the effort of our team in beating Oregon earlier, but wow. The strength of that win took a huge hit today after they were crushed by Utah. Utah isn't a bad team by any means, but now OSU and MSU are the only truly elite teams on each other's schedule. Win out, and we will still make the playoffs. One loss though, and we are out for sure.

On a positive note (if you want to look at it that way), UM looks like it has a decent team. They should be ranked now when we play them. It won't make up ground if we lose to OSU, but it could help solidify our ranking in the top 2-4 leading up to the OSU game.

I'm "cheering" for UM to keep winning until we meet in AA. They have a really good defense, but their offense is pedestrian at best. Beating a top 15 Michigan team on the road would without a doubt give MSU a boost.

I found it hilarious last night that some of my UofM friends were saying that because Utah beat Oregon, Michigan will absolutely destroy State when we meet. I understand the logic, but different teams show up to different games. Don't you think Oregon was a bit deflated after losing a close one to MSU?

However, it is nice to have both teams looking pretty solid going into the big game. I know a lot can change until Oct 17 but both teams should win out.

Yeah, games really aren't analogous like that. Really, I don't think Oregon's issue was being deflated after MSU, I think it was the deterioration of Vernon Adams. Obviously the finger was killing him as he couldn't make almost any of the throws he was making with ease earlier. Once the offense stopped being able to eat clock and prop up the D, it was over. Oregon didn't have a very good defense to begin with, and was always going to have to outscore good opponents.

I think what makes this year so great is that anyone can win. I don't mean in an "every given saturday" kind of way. I mean that all of these teams in the top 15 could realistically beat any other team in the top 15. This isn't a year with an Alabama team tearing through opponents with a first round talent at every position. There aren't 2-3 obvious contenders standing head and shoulders above the rest. And for all my love and bias towards MSU the last decade, THIS is the kind of year when we could win a championship. THIS is a year we could really stand out and start turning top 15 recruiting classes into the norm.

it's foolish to say they would crush us particularly since utah beat michigan but anyone who watched those two games and thinks michigan can't beat us at home has their head in the sand. we've looked pretty bad the last couple weeks and we're getting banged up on the o-line and our already questionable secondary. we should win the game but we've played like a team that's poised for an upset.

I said it after the MSU vs Oregon game. I didn't think either team was as good as they were last year. It looks like Oregon is significantly worse! Losing by 6 TDs at home? That is TERRIBLE!

This. The only reason we didn't lose to Western, Air Force or Central is because we far "out talented" them. Sorry to say this, but if we play like that U of M is going to roll us. I mean like a 30-17 ass kicking.

We have two games to right the ship, otherwise it's going to be a major shock for most MSU fans to see us lose four of our last six.

Thankfully michigan is primarily a running team (at this point) and run defense has been solid excluding the triple option which michigan doesn't run. Unfortunately, their run defense has been stout as well - albeit against teams that don't really run. I think the probability of getting thumped by michigan is very low but we definitely can't play like this and expect to beat them.

I'm actually more worried about our offense vs Um than our defense. Our defense is designed to stuff their attack, they will not score much. Our O has been start and stop and not very consistent and UM's defense is very good.

I'm definitely more worried about our offense than I am the defense in that match up. They're passing attack isn't particularly intimidating (although they could probably have as much success throwing against us as they will against anyone else on their schedule). If Cook is inconsistent and we can't establish the run, we could be looking at another crappy game like 2012 - hopefully not that bad but it could be an ugly game.

if you want to use that logic then Utah State should be a team to beat this year, they played a very tight game against Utah, they're way better than Oregon. Michigan is much improved and looked very good on saturday but the transitive argument rarely makes sense.

Also if you're using that logic, Northwestern is a top 5 team of not top 3.

Hey guys, not trolling over here, honest.

At this point in the season, have to agree with the prior sentiments that the MSU @ UM game is shaping up to be a defensive struggle. Turnovers and Special Teams usually are the tipping points in those types of games, so just wondering if the MSU ST has been solid this year, or does UM maybe hold a slight edge since their Punter is good, Kicker has been surprisingly good, and Peppers is a legit return threat (though he hasn't scored yet, he still looks really good in the return game). Turnovers are too difficult to say who might have the edge IMO, so just curious about the ST.

The next 2 weeks should be good ones for MSU to lick their wounds and be ready for the UM game. Would rather MSU be healthy than full of injuries.

We arent there yet but the upcoming game is a draw right now. If I was a vegas capper id say MSU -2. The BYU game shows how far michigan has come in 1 season. I woulnt be surprised to see michigan win the next game

Our placekicker is a hot mess right now - seems like a total head case that can't get himself right and kick/punt coverage is just as bad if not worse so far. We gave up 170+ yds and a TD on the first 2 kicks of the season and a 71 yd punt return TD against Oregon. I don't know about the kid from Oregon but the WMU kid is supposed to be one of the best. Still, 170+ yards on 2 straight kicks is awful. Not knowing anything about uofm special teams I'm confident saying definitely advantage uofm at this point.

Thanks for info. Based on your post, I think UM has a slight advantage in ST this year. Maybe that plus UM having home field advantage is why some are predicting UM at this point, but with several games still ahead I will wait before getting too hopeful that UM has a legit chance this year.
