Don't know her .... don't know details of the case .... don't know details of Italian legal system .... don't know if she did it or not.

Can't understand why there is a trending Facebook status that "God Blesses" her and makes this trial into some political victory for America.

Anyone....?

I'm not saying she didn't do it - but it's extremely rare for women to commit murder; especially murder with sexual assault. Something always seemed fishy about the case to me and I think Italy was, at first, trying to make a political statement of their own and then the case blew up to more than they thought it would.

But who knows - maybe she did it. I know very little about the case.

It probably wasn't "Italy" as much as it was some douchebag prosecutor trying to further his or her career by nailing someone noteworthy in a high-profile, sensationalized case, just like douchebag "tough on crime" prosecutors do all the time here in the United States. See, e.g. the career of former prosecutor and current reality TV star Nancy Grace.

But that's just my two cents. I also haven't really followed this case, except that I heard it was going on, and then I heard she was acquitted on appeal. Maybe the Italian government really decided to take a stand against American bullying and chose this criminal trial to do it... or maybe she was really guilty and got away with it. Who knows? Who cares? not me.

im a bit embarrassed to admit it but I followed this case over the years...i think the true killer is in prison and amanda and rafe were victims of really really bad timing.

Those kids do not do themselves any favors crumbling during interrogation but unless you've been there you have no idea what you'll say under pressure like that. Look at those W. Memphis three kids (now adults) just getting out after 20 years in

we can armchair this like a game at the bighouse but this is incredible human drama and misery for all involved. Guilty or not, this is how its played out and their lives will be scarred forever==for all parties

I get following the case if that's your thing, I just haven't. And from the summary of events, it seems a Movie of the Week is certain....

I was just confused by people posting "God Bless Amanda Knox and the USA!!"

I'm sure she and her family are happy as shit, but how that is a victory for 'Merica I don't get.

i have not seen any of the ethnocentric crap you mention. That never dawned upon me.

Who takes her on campaign trail...Romney or Barry? She seems like a D but The R like to glom onto all that pseudo-patriot crap

Me either ... anyhow. Glad if she didn't do it, that she's been exonerated and hope that each and every wrongly prosecuted/convicted criminal in the US gets the same justice.

I don't think it's a matter of doing oneself a "favor." as you mention, interrogation is designed to break people down and force them to admit things.

Sleep deprivation is a common technique, along with bright lights, no water, no food, no cigarettes, good-cop/bad-cop, threats, etc. Unless you are trained to recognize and resist forced interrogation, or fully understand your constitutional rights (Miranda warnings aren't always enough, and a lot of police find ways around them), you are probably going to break down.

Here in Illinois, we just saw a prime example of this with the Riley Fox case. Her father was convicted of murdering her after a botched investigation lead police to him, and he broke down and confessed to the murder under extreme duress. he spent 8 months in jail before DNA evidence, and a confession from a known convicted sex offender freed him.

That's some nice police work there, Lou...

damn... the riley fox case is infuriating. The media coverage is SO BIASED in favor of the police and state: they make it sound like it was the father's fault for confessing, and gloss over the insane ABSURDITY of the idea that an innocent man would admit to murdering his own daughter...

ok, I'm done.

*quietly steps off soap box*

My Dad was a cop for 14 years. He told us kids that if we were ever arrested to not say anything to detectives. He said that they would twist your words and lie to you to get you to say things that they would then use to confuse you and get you to say other things.... Best just to keep your mouth shut and get a lawyer.

Seems to me that many dectectives and prosecutors are focused on getting a conviction rather than the truth and justice, and refuse to admit someone is innocent even when shown to be so to any fair minded person.

that's exactly right; a lot of them are scum, no better than the criminals they are tasked with prosecuting. when you've been arrested, the only words you should ever say to the police or detectives are: "I want to talk to my lawyer." you need to remain firm on this point too. once you say those words, the questioning <s>can </s> should end...

also agree - i have criminal defense attorneys in my family and they say just keep quiet

What always struck me about my Dad saying this was that I grew up around cops. Many of the family activities revolved around FOP activities, partners over for lunch or dinner, etc. When I was a kid my Dad told me that if I got lost or was in trouble to go to a police officer and tell him who my Dad was. Cops were friends. That changed when I became a teenager. That was when the message changed.

You mean, he didn't continue to tell you to just tell the cops who your dad is, like he did when you were a little kid?

On Law and Order, all those cops have family members who got in trouble, but got favorable treatment because of their cop relatives. Would have thought it was the same in real life.
