Okay, so the little dude (just a week before turning 5) says to me on Friday night, during the USC v Colorado game in Boulder ...

"In Boulder, they don't let you have a couch on your porch." after the TV crew said something about being in Boulder.

"Oh yeah, why's that?" I asked after a pause.

"Because if you fall asleep on the couch while you're grilling, you might start a fire."

I have no idea where he came up with that but I nearly spit out my Coors and couldn't help but laugh. I think at some point I must have said something to my wife about the message board topic while he was sitting in the car or something and he absorbed it or ...he's been logging on to the board himself somehow.

He also called the Hawkeyes "cheaters" after the review said no TD for Hemingway ... Heh

Anyways, that cracked me up and it's all in fun --

that includes teasing dudes for driving Civics.

Hah, It's amazing what they pick up and retain. It's cool to watch the little squirts transform from slobbering rug rats into little people that can reason and use logic. My guys turned 6 in September and it blows me away when I think about everything they can do by themselves now. I think it's funny he's already picking on MB09.

He also brings up a good point as to why grilling on your porch, while sleeping, should be illegal.

I run my smoker all night, and sleep in the house. Never had an issue.

But I don't drive a Civic either!

It is amazing what kids can pick up on. Every parent goes through the milestones and is amazed by their own kids. My son just turned 2 and it is amazing the things he learns and how quickly he learns it! He may get to play soccer and may not like the things I do, but I will never let him drive a chick car! (just kidding, he isn't playing soccer either)

You haven't had an issue YET, suddenly:

That sounds delicious actually. That's the one thing Ann Arbor is missing - a great BBQ place.

Just don't go to any games at Penn State before he turns 18. Trust me...

Damn business opportunity right there.

M&B09... despite being such a huge advocate of couches, you strike me as dangerously ill-informed when it comes to the nature of couches.

Who invented the couch? How did they evolve over time? What different types of couches are there? What are the risks of using a couch, (back problems, a sedentary lifestyle, heart disease, risk of diabetes, high cholesterol, etc.)?

Jay Wellingdon Couch invented the couch. The story is that he was a poor man and waned to invent something to sleep on that could be used as a bed and a chair, so he decided to make the chair longer and more comfortable.

A study conducted by the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that those who said they spent two or more leisure hours a day sitting on a couch were at double the risk of a heart attack or other cardiac event compared with those who sat in chairs. Those who spent four or more hours sitting on a couch were 50 percent more likely to die of any cause. It didn

Even a 5 year old has more common sense than mb09

It sounds like he pointed out my exact concerns to a T. Grilling on a porch - then falling asleep is the fire hazard here.

I thought it was pretty clever that he connected the dots and assumed that the danger posed by the couch was from the risk of falling asleep while grilling!
