OT: Tyler Hilinski

that confirms the suspicions in the original thread.

in one of the articles someone else posted about CTE, I remember the numbers for college players were almost as bad as NFL players.

yeah... CTE found in 110 of 111 former NFLers studied (99.1%) link. "Only" in 48 of 53 that played college but not pro. (90%) 3 out of 14 former highschoolers (20%)

that was only among deceased former players who donated their brains to science.

Would be interesting to know how many of those players were symptomatic before they died.

also as far as I know, they still can't test for CTE until they physically examine the brain, so it's not possible to confirm this among all former NFL players.

They are getting closer to being able to test while they are alive. They have a couple of biomarkers that can indicate CTE.

And I'm well beyond giving a crap about any opinions about the game getting sissified. There are plenty of dangerous activities available for people that want to take risks. If you want to see people do permanent damage to their brains for entertainment, if you need that element to make it fun for you, watch boxing. There's no way it aligns with the purpose of a university and money is the only reason it's been tolerated as much as it has.

This could change everything. If you had a measurement, beyond which, you weren't allowed to play in college, I think it would change how the game is played.

People might - MIGHT - not cheer quite as hard for the heavy hits if they knew that the hitter and hittee both just raised their likelihood of suffering CTE over 50%.

Then again, some might cheer more.

Gladiatorial combat only ended because the defunct Roman empire ran out of money, you know.

I wonder how many people running around on the street have stage 1 CTE

How? Have we ever had a more sedentary lifestyle?

How? I don't know. I was just joking. I don't actually believe that.

I also don't believe a chicken crossed the road, a priest, a rabbi, and a buddhist walked into a bar together, or anyone is knocking at the door.
