Anibal Sanchez makes his second start of the season after the Tigers dropped their second straight game Monday, losing 7-4 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He earned the win in his first start, allowing two runs on four hits in five innings pitched Wednesday at Miami.
Sanchez has lost his last four starts against Pittsburgh dating back to the 2012 season. In those four games, he gave up 16 runs on 28 hits in 27 innings.
Juan Nicasio allowed a run on two hits and struck out seven in six innings Wednesday in a win over St. Louis. This is his sixth major league season and first career start vs. Detroit.
J.D. Martinez and Jose Iglesias carry five-game hitting streaks into Tuesday's game. Martinez was 2-for-3 with a home run Monday, while Iglesias went 1-for-3 with a single.
The weather forecast for Detroit for mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. There is no chance of rain.
