In 41 games, DET's OPP have averaged 16.67 P/IP (150 pitches per game) or more in 16 of those games. DET is 12-4 in those games, with 2 blown saves.

DET pitchers, on the other hand, have 18 games of 16.67 P/IP or more, and their record is 7-11.

In 12 games where DET pitchers averaged less than 15.0 P/IP, DET is 9-3, with 2 blown saves. DET's OPP also have 12 games with 15.0 P/IP or less and DET is 3-9 with 1 blown save.

DET's OPP has 9 games with 14.0 P/IP or below and DET is 1-8 in those games.

DET has 5 games with 14.0 P/IP or beloww and DET is 3-2 with 2 blown saves.

DET's OPP has 5 games with 19.0 P/IP or more and DET is 5-0 in those games.

DET has 8 games with 19.0 P/IP or more and DET is 3-5 in those games.

DET is 12-5 2 blown saves in games where their pitchers had less P/IP than the OPP.

The current AL average is 16.24 P/IP (146 per game). DET's OPP average 16.03 P/IP (144 per game). DET averages 16.78 P/IP (151 per game).

Analysis of this data indicates obviously DET has a better chance of winning if they add to their OPP pitch counts. However, their record isn't all that bad when their own pitchers have high pitch counts. Most of this is attributed to the high Ks.

DET OPP Pitchers 363.3 IP 119 BB 280 K

DET Pitchers 364.0 IP 124 BB 353 K

The 73 strikeouts difference is about 1.75 per game and could easily mean an additonal 5 pitches per game.

Porcello's last two starts must really skew that data.

5 and 4 innings pitches at 100 pitches.

High k definitely for us. Verlander is always going to be above average and if Max can pitch like he just did, he will as well.

I expect Fister to be below the average, he seems like his pitch counts to be good most of the time.

I hate to see valverde and Benoit that high.

Benoit's P/IP has to be declining rapidly. He was throwing a lot of pitches early in the season because he was walking everyone, and going high count strikeouts on the rest.

Lately though, he's been a machine.
