So who makes the 25 man roster for the first playoff series? I think there are 20 spots all wrapped up, Cabrera, Santiago, Raburn,Peralta, Betemit, Inge, Young, Jackson, Ordonez, Kelly, Avilla, Martinez, Verlander, Fister, Scherzer, Porcello, Valverde, Benoit, Coke, & Schlereth. AlAl is a given, if healthy, and I think as long as Guillen is hurt that Dirks is in, so that is 22 spots, who gets the last 3? I would take Below to have 3 lhp against Boston, and than I would take Pauley who should be pitching instead of Perry late in games, IMO, so who gets the last spot? Perry, Penny, Santos or Worth? Worth would be my choice for defensive purposes. If we have to use Raburn to ph and replace Santiago in the case of a rh to lh pitcher late in a close game or having Betemit have to ph for Inge in the case of rh coming in for a lh late in the game, we than have Worth to put at either 2b or 3b if we end up with a late lead.

Wow, I've saw lots of ideas online but that is the first one I've seen that includes Rhymes, just don't se that happening, but just my opinion. I can see Santos over Pauley, because the starters will have to go 6 or 7 for us to be succesful.

Rhymes would be a backup to Santiago at 2b and a pinch runner.
Santos just in case something happens to Avilla.
Kelly would hit against righties over Magglio in RF
Raburn could pinch hit for Santiago, and play some RF if needed
Inge as a defensive replacement for Betemit at 3rd

Has it been determined Guillen won't be back? Because if he's healthy, he's on the team.

Mitch[/color]]They're not taking Santos. Lol. And Ryhmes, no way.

what happens if Avilla gets hurt? they'll run us crazy with Martinez catching.

They're not taking Santos. And if Avila does get hurt, after the game they bring Santos up. But until then not a chance.

I think they roll without Santos... I don't believe Gullien will be on the roster. He just cannot stay healthy. Not sure about Pauley but they may not need him. Sorry but no Wil Rhymes either they are not going to sit Penny in my opinion.

Carlos will be re-evaluated today. I think if he is ok to go by the time playoffs begin he will be on the roster. Veteran bat and switch hitter.
Rhymes, I doubt, I would have Worth before him,
I think if the Tigers go with the set 25 and one is injured and can't continue, they can take another player that was on the 40 man in his place.
Perry, meh, Hope Al Al is ready come October 1st.

I posted this in the game thread yesterday:

1 Jackson
2 Santiago
3 Young
4 Cabrera
5 Matrinez
6 Avila
7 Peralta
8 Maggs
9 Betemit

Bench

10 Inge - Backup to Avila at C
11 Kelly - Super sub
12 Raburn

This is what Leyland usually does, 12 position players and 13 pitchers.

If he went with 13 position and 12 pitchers I would look for either Dirks or Guillen long before Santos.

1 Verlander
2 Scherzer
3 Fister
4 Porcello

pen'

5 Valverde
6 Benoit
7 Coke
8 Al Al
9 Schlereth
10 Below
11 Perry
12 Penny/Turner
13 Pauley - if 13

Can't argue with this at all. I would prefer 13 position players and keeping Dirks. But if Carlos is healthy, he would be Leyland's choice.

13 position players would set us up better for defensive changes and PH'ing, but I expect with pitchers going on short rest that Leyland will keep a full 'pen.

When has Leyland gone with 12 position players?

14 position players is the norm for the postseason (Leyland went with 14 in 2006). I could see 13 if Guillen is unavailable for the postseason and an extra relief pitcher is viewed as more valuable than a guy like Rhymes.

I think Leyland will put together good playoff rosters. He seemed to having things clicking in 06 until our pitchers and hitters choked.

Leyland: #Tigers will go with extra position player for postseason: 11 pitchers, 14 position players.

who do you sit in the World Series when it's at a N.L. league park. does Martinez catch and Avilla sit ? Time to have Cabrera take some ground balls at 3b. lol

No I don't think Victor's knees can take catching. You have to sit Victor.. Damn it means if we make it that far we will need to win all of our home games.... What a stupid fucking rule.. Either have the whole league DH or go back to pitchers batting.. I am tired of switching back and forth...
