Preseason Game 1: Browns @ Lions Thread

He did drop a ball that hit him in the hands. He should have more space when calvin is on the field. If calvin goes down we will have the same problems as last year.... neither ebron our tate are going to be game breakers that create huge amounts of seperation versus an honest defense.

You can't make that assessment after watching that. All those players on the field at once is going to be scary for defenses. Then you have Bush and Bell spreading it out even more? Insane...

I agree Tony. The Lions aren't going to show opposing teams anything more than glimpses of what the offense is about during the preseason. Assessing a preseason game is insane and pointless.

The one thing I dont understand is caldwell still says Orlovsky is #2. Kellen played so much better last night. I hope they at least give him some plays as the #2. The offense moved and Kellen wasnt afraid to throw down field. The winning throw was the best pass anyone threw all night.Unless you listen to the Browns broadcast about the Johnny throw at the kneecaps of the WR lol.

Im going off what I just watched. They were without cj and they didn't make any game breaking plays....at all.

If something happens to Calvin we are in better shape this year than in years past. We actually have depth now at WR than we have had in a long time. They dont have the big play ability that Calvin does but they are solid. If Broyles can stay healthy we will actually have 5 WR's you can put out there that can make plays. And we will have 3 TE that can make plays as well. And lets not forget Bush and Bell at RB.

Kellen will win the backup spot outright before the preseason is over. Bet Orlovsky doesn't make it thru final cuts

I don't know. If Calvin's out the defense has more guys to cover us. Plus, Broyles staying healthy is a long shot..we have a rookie TE and our QB still is a 59% completion guy. Without Calvin we're screwed..

We're not going to get his yards from else where..

Plus Calvin is our only deep guy..defenses will play up on us.

Moore looked good, for a third string QB against a third string defense. Simple as that.

A lot more goes into your spot on the depth chart than a pre-season game. Is he absorbing the playbook? Can he take advantage of the game breakers like Calvin Johnson if Stafford goes down? While he made good throws, is he executing the playbook the way Caldwell wants him to?

About a hundred other questions could be added in, and I'm not energized enough to type any more of them. The fact remains, nothing from one pre-season game suggests Moore should be any higher on the depth chart than he is.

Hell, he looked better than Stafford last night, and I would hope no one is considering benching the starting QB for the pre-season hero.

My point is that Orlovsky can't even look decent in a bunch of backups in a preseason game. Without seeing Franklin yet, am I wrong to think Moore is the best option at qb outside of Stafford? Imo, seeing Orlovsky at qb this year would be as devastating as seeing Durham at #1 wr last year. Seeing him on the Lions roster is a slap in the face and a constant reminder of the Lions 2008 season.

For me the fact hes even on the roster is a constant reminder of how void of talent this team is. Our only deep position is rb which is worthless.Nice job mayhew.

Disagree completely. I just see no reason for Orlovsky to be on an nfl roster, ESPECIALLY the Lions roster. Imo, the Lions have the most dline depth in the NFL.

Yet you predict 10 wins.....

Something doesn't add up there, Sally.

Stafford played ONE series. Bush played 1 or 2. I never even seen Tate after his 15 yd catch. Calvin didn't play. It's impossible to make that call from watching a minute of football. You're reaching now.....get real.

They wanted Hill back. He wanted to go home to St Louis....i think he's from there. And you go look at every team in the NFL and tell me they're comfortable with their backups at QB. They're not. So blaming Mayhew for having Orlovsky or Moore as a backup is not Mayhew's fault. Get your head outta your ass.

And having solid RB depth is not worthless. It's a good thing.
