Preseason Game 1: Browns @ Lions Thread

Shit, so I guess when they drafted Ebron, Barry should have said "With the 10th pick, the Detroit Lions selected TE/WR/RB/FB/QB Eric Ebron."

He's a hybrid TE/WR. Fine. Knock off the backfield stuff. Hell, even Jimmy Graham who is the major comparison to Ebron never lines up in the backfield.

Let the kid figure out his damn position first.

Detroit Lions select Matchup Nightmare Eric Ebron

lmfao. That's awesome, bro. So funny too. I guess you don't have a single fn clue what you're talking about though. But maybe i don't ...idk. You obviously have the Lions playbook in front of you right now, right? lol. Since Joe Lombardi coached the Saints last year, it's no secret that they were going to implement a shitload of that playbook into the NEW offense. Lombardi even said it himself.
I will be honest though. I don't follow the Saints much and i don't know if Graham has ever lined up in the backfield before, but i would bet my mortgage he has. It really wasn't a complicated formation anyways. He was lined up as a RB, ball was snapped, he looked like he was going to block, delayed and fell off into the flats. Real complicated shit right there lol. I'd be more worried if he couldn't learn something like that. Shows they have some trust in the fn kid. Overblow it though like you guys do best ....classic lol

Not exactly sure how to take that post... I'm an idiot, but you called yourself an idiot, no one has clue. Lots of yelling and calling me names though per usual.

Look man, I want the guy to succeed. I hope he proves me wrong. But whenever I watch an NFL game, I don't see guys like Graham, Davis, Gonzalez, Gates, ie, the elite TEs doing anything other than getting downfield out of the TE spot or occasionally split out wide. I have dealt with the Lions trying to be the smartest guy in the room for as long as I've watched them, and this screams that to me. He doesn't need to be an RB, a FB, whatever. They have enough guys who can catch the ball out of the backfield. Have him do what he does best and beat guys out wide and down the seam. And that will require him to start at the line.

They don't need to get cute with him as an RB. It's overkill. I saw enough goofy shit with Reiff last year. Let him do what he does best.

Or he beats a LB in the flat after starting in the backfield. It's not a big deal to put him there and it won't be very many snaps. Most will be in slot or inline.

I never yelled at you or called you names. Lighten up..

And again, you have no idea where players like Gonzalez, Davis, Graham or Gates have lined up in the past. We all know they're not RBs....stop bitching just for the sake of bitching

I'm not bitching for the sake of bitching. I have a genuine issue with seeing him in the backfield. Regardless if it's 1 snap or 50000 snaps, it takes away from what he does best.

Genuine? lol. Buddy, he ran into the flats after the ball was snapped. Wtf is the issue? He went out for a pass. Hey, can you believe that shit? A TE going out for a pass? Man, the NFL has evolved eh? You're tripping out for nothing....chill out.

I sure as hell hope it doesn't confuse him. I'd much rather see him master everything at the LOS before he starts doing stuff out of the backfield. That's my point in all this. The playbook is supposedly as complex as it comes.

Confuse the defense, not Ebron.

I'm not surprised Ebron lined up in the backfield and whether Graham did it is irrelevant. There was a quote right after the draft where Lombardi said there were some things he'd be able to do with Ebron because he's a little quicker than Graham.

Worst case scenario, Ebron can't grasp the playbook and we get to watch the board argue with the 2-3 resident slappies for months. That was so much fun this offseason... :ugh:

Well thanks for the opinions. It bothered me to see him in the backfield, but I understand where you guys are coming from.

or he starts in the backfield to chip the de and misses and orlovsky gets sacked...

The only problem I see with Nightmaretron in the backfield, regardless if he's a bit quicker, is because Stafford gets rid of the ball so quick how far upfield can he get because Stafford lets one go..los?
