you feel for the children sure. But you hate to see a rash decision made in the heat of the moment that isnt based on fact and takes away from probably the greatest coaching career of all time. The details Paterno testified about what was told to him by Mcqueery (SP)...if true...then i think he did more than enough by going to the campus police and notifying his supervisor. Mcqueery didnt come out and tell him that he saw Sandusky sodomizing or raping a child. He gave him confused details about some touching that could be deemed inappropriate. I dont blame Joe if thats the case and dont think he deserved his career to end that way. If his testimony did not match McQueerys than JoePa would be in contempt of court and in serious legal trouble....since thats not the case then the stories must have matched and thats what we have to assume is factual. That makes the Boards decision strictly a business matter and if thats the case then i think their decision and the way they went about executing it is fucking fail lol.
You are giving Paterno a huge amount of leniency that isn't warranted by the facts. It's pretty clear that Paterno knew at least that Sandusky had been in a shower, naked, with a 10 year old boy and engaging in "horseplay". I don't know about you, but for me that's enough for me to take some action to get the old pervert away from children. I don't get this attitude where people are excusing Paterno's inaction because he didn't have the full story. Even the details he claims to have heard were enough to do something. The most that ever happened was they told Sandusky to not bring young boys to campus anymore. Basically, "We don't mind what you're doing Jerry as long as it doesn't happen here!" It's bullshit and people are blinded by the doddering old fool's legacy.
