i know we earn them off of what our former FAs do. but here's the question. We cut Burleson and Delmas and they signed with other teams. can we still get comp picks off of Cut players? and i know we wouldn't til next draft anyway

It depends on how much they play and how much they make and who we sign as well..

Edit: neither were cut I don't believe, contacts just ended right?

if we CAN get picks off them i can see us getting at least 3 comp picks for the next draft. those 2 and young

Highly unlikely, especially since they'll factor in that we signed Golden Tate and Ihedigbo who will likely cancel out some of those picks.

Burelson was cut. Delmas was a free agent.

The real question is why are we discussing compensation picks for the 2015 draft before we've even had the 2014 draft??? Who cares at this point???

i was curious on comp picks and wanted to know and the 2014 FA does affect the 2015 draft. wondering how many picks detroit could get for the next one.

i know its early for that but i was still curious how comp picks worked on a guy that was cut as opposed to leaving via FA

Cut players don't count. The Lions will not get comp picks in 2015 unless Willie Young and Shaun Hill have career years and Tate/Ihedigbo both have their worst seasons ever.

Cut players don't count towards comp picks. I don't see Detroit getting any comp picks next year. Lost Young and Hill, gained Tate and Ihedigbo. Tate was most expensive too

cool i was curious how that all worked out.

Every team gets 1 so we will get at least a 7th.

I'm infinitely more curious about Idonije and Young.

Both could get significant playing time in Chi-town.

A journalist may say "cut", but Delmas was on a one year deal with option years on the team.

His release will not count as a "cut" it will count as a free agent release because they didn't pick up his option.

That's not how I understood it. Here's an article from when they signed him in May of 2012.

"In 2013, Delmas will have a base salary of $715,000, the veteran's minimum for a player with 4-6 accrued seasons. He has the ability to earn up to $1.75 million more based on playing time."

"The Lions also awarded Delmas a $1 million signing bonus. For cap purposes, this is divided evenly over the two-year deal. That means Delmas' cap number for 2013 will be $1.215 million."

"In 2014, Delmas' base salary jumps to $5.5 million, plus a $500,000 roster bonus and $500,000 prorated portion of his signing bonus. That $6.5 million will be added the playing time bonus Delmas earns in 2013, making his max cap number $8.25 million."

Delmas was on a 2 year deal. It was not an option year. There may have been a roster bonus they avoided but Delmas counts as a cut.

Only if they become an unrestrictred free agent from an expired contract do they count as a loss.
