The NCAA brings sanctions down on schools that give money or benefits to players. What about high school? I realize it's probably not common, but what about high school's paying players. Probably more relevant in states like Texas, but I'm sure it happens. Players switch high schools all the time so they have better chances at the pros. What's to stop a coach, AD, or a local with money to pay players to transfer or just reward them for good performances?

This is something I've never heard of, so I'm curious as to what the rules are?

The Blind Side, a movie based on a true story, was about how a bunch of rich white southerners basically kidnapped a poor black kid because he was big, and giant, and thought he would be able to help their football team win games.

And he did, too.

Set up an interview with Kevin and kelvin Grady's dad in jail.. He knows that game pretty well. Selling real estate for dirt cheap to lure talent and their broke families to come play for EGR.

I'm pretty sure there's some HS equivalent of the NCAA that manages all of that stuff. The rules are very similar to the NCAA rules.

I'm pretty sure that stuff is governed by the individual states. For instance, I know that here in Ohio, public schools can't recruit players to move to their district, but private schools can recruit them to come to their school and play for them. Not necessarily paying for their services, but I'm sure some of that goes on.

Hell, OJ Mayo and Bill Walker played basketball at North College Hill HS here in Cincinnati for 2 or 3 years. I can't think of any reason they'd choose that shithole over some of the other schools/districts around Cincinnati. Perhaps it had something to do with the brand new Escalades that each of the 16 year old kids drove or the apartment they lived in (just the two of them) and were able to afford without jobs?

private schools can't really "recruit" either. The difference is that you can cross district lines, since you aren't bound by them. Anyone can go there if they pay tuition & are willing to travel to the school everyday.

in Michigan, they do not allow scholarships for high school athletics. there are always rumors surrounding programs that have long term success, but I didn't believe most of them (except for Country Day). our basketball coach called their program "the best team money can buy." From the Wiki on their school<blockquote>In March 2004 the Michigan High School Athletic Association recommended that DCDS voluntarily forfeit three state basketball championships won between 1989 and 1991, claiming that former DCDS star Chris Webber had violated his amateur status via his relationship with University of Michigan athletic booster Ed Martin. DCDS declined to follow the MHSAA's suggestion.</blockquote>corrupt bastards.

Toledo Whitmer (Koger, Wormley) is being investigated for recruiting...

the same thing just happened at Inkster, I think. Bob posted about it here on the board.

How DUMB do you have to be to think 40+ transfers in a year would go unnoticed?

Hope they bring the hammer down.

<s>I know here in America cheating to win is now pretty much acceptable as long as you win, but</s> we can at least keep the REALLY corrupt bastards with no sense of discretion from doing it, right???

To think there is not shenanigans going on at both public and private schools is pretty naive in my opinion. Some schools do it better then others....
