Get Startedyou crackers crack me up.
Actually I don't care for the idea she got fired for a tweet. Or if it was a FB post or whatever.
I don't like social media and don't use it simply because it's such a huge invasion of privacy. I actually laugh when I see some dipshit who makes a tweet/facebook post with a little funny pic in it about the NSA or something. It's like they have no sense of irony at all.
But truthfully, this had nothing to do with her work, or seemingly affected it in any way, other than some nosy person ratted her out for it. Suspending her was probably wrong, but the school board were giant pricks for not letting her just resign like she tried, and instead going the extra mile to fire her instead.
Meanwhile some doofus will make a giant thread all about how racism is alive and well in Texas because of something that's not even newsworthy at all except for maybe an improper termination.
Umm, what racism?
I'm not sure you understand what that word means.
For whatever reason, this thing disturbs me. This firing was stupid and dumb.
She used a racist term for black people, her own race, and a racist (I guess; I don't know if anybody's called me a cracker, but if somebody did I would just laugh) term about white people.
Your wife is right; stop tweeting/posting to facebook and everything else.
This teacher should get her job back, with the warning "stop with the social media, and leave the controversial 'funny' (ha ha) shit to professionals like Bill Maher."
sorry it has you worked up so much tinsel, but I can assure you that this woman's union has had meetings at a minimum once per year for the last 5 years that if they use social media they open themselves up to being easily terminated for posting anything that may even be perceived as putting a negative light on the board of ed. even if it is something completely taken out of context, or came across with a different "voice" than intended, because it is so easily traced back to the employer the employee is subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination. every business with contractual employees have something along this line written in the contract, and the employees are warned time and time again. whether it is arrogance, stupidity, under the influence of some sort of drugs or alcohol, or even if it is something posted by another person but is on your account, you are still accountable for what gets put onto your social media account and are subject to disciplinary action for such actions. that is why the unions strongly encourage their members to actually delete their accounts altogether and never post anything to social media using their true identity.
Sure.
What she did was stupid and dumb too.
But I'm gonna call the school board tomorrow morning and tell them..."hey...give her another chance to be an English teacher...and to stop pretending that she's Bill Maher..."
Because I just think it's the right thing to do...
:hmm:
I think zyxt is trying harder to convince himself than he is anyone else.
You can call someone "nigga" or "cracker" without actually being a racist. Like I said, you have no idea what the word racism really means.
But thanks for making this important thread to let us all know how Racism is alive and well in Texas. I'll sleep better knowing you're on the job.
Just agreeing that racism is alive and well, but I wouldn't point to a racial slur if I was trying to convince someone that it's a big deal.
Why not? Thumb and Champ do it all the time.
Not denying that when they are calling someone out, there is usually a legit issue. My argument is they were probably chomping at the bit right up until they realized the lady is black, then it was "oh, that's no big deal...it's actually funny...she shouldn't have been fired".

Anyway, I just called the district, and told them I thought they went too far in the firing. The person I talked thanked me, and said "I have notated it..."
Did you mention you were in Glee Club? Your statement may have carried more weight.
You are so full of BS and trying to backpedal out of this while I'm backing up my statements with documents and facts. Go ahead though, keep trying.
no, YOU do not grasp the FACT that this person has been fired for making racist comments.
Finally we are seeing enlightened people recognize racism is not solely a Caucasian prejudice, but is something every race must strive to stop using to demean and belittle another race. Racism is no longer being looked at as one-sided, which is great news... for only through every race accepting as equals each and every other race can we finally remove racial definitions and all become members of the only race that matters, Human.
Part of the problem is Thumb doesn't know the difference between racism and discrimination. That tweet is unmistakably racist. There is no question about that. And while the racial aspect of it is dominating the conversation, she also told people who disagree with her to "kill themselves" - an indefensible and totally inappropriate statement. That probably had as much to do w/ her being fired as the racial slur but that's being ignored by the media because all anyone wants to talk about is race.
Kill yourself.
