Ranked #22 in the AP poll - #21 coaches

Is this the highest we've been ranked since 07?

Was hoping we wouldn't be ranked until after beating SDSU. Just gives others more insentive. Are we really the 22 best team in the country?

After watching Oklahoma and FSU we are not capable of playing teams like them. But I figure we would end up in-between 15 and 25 by the year ends. I always figured if your not in the top 10 your not really anything. But its nice to have the number by our name

No I believe last year we made it into the teens before dropping out. Rankings really don't matter until later in the season and truly only matter if you're playing in the NC game. I don't think we're a top 20 team.

That ranking is a nice reward for the kids on the team, busting their hump. I hope the protect it..

Not Oklahoma. But I don't buy into the FSU hype quite yet.

FSU gave Oklahoma a hell of a game. They're not that far away. They'd roll us without breaking much of a sweat, I'm afraid.

Anyway, it was inevitable to be ranked this week, after being #26 the week before - certainly M was gonna dominate EMU, and someone was gonna drop out.

Sparty does stay ranked in the coaches' poll.

And it doesn't matter much either way, but I'd rather see M ranked than not.

Meanwhile the Lions are just rolling KC over on the Lions boards...so I'm gonna pop in back there...

Uugggggghhhhh. Now we're guaranteed to lose to Northwestern and Minny and then everyone will hate on Michigan for being overrated.

No way. M may not be 'the' 22nd 'best' team period, but the team is winning and beat an ND team that thumped #15 ....it's just how it works.

But Hoke talks a lot about being accountable to the tradition, standards and expectations. Being #22 in the nation is At Least where we'll expect to be going forward. And I've got no problem with being 22 and losing to a tough SDSU as long as the team plays hard.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Ohio State is out, Michigan is in. Who would have thought that three weeks ago?

The Wolverines entered the Associated Press media poll at No. 22 and the USA Today Coaches' poll at No. 21 after starting 3-0 for the third consecutive season. It's the first national ranking in the Associated Press poll for Michigan since Oct. 10, 2010, and the first in the coaches' poll since Oct. 24, 2010.

Michigan managed it after pulling away to beat Eastern Michigan, 31-3, on Saturday.

As Michigan rose, Ohio State fell. After struggling against Toledo last week, Miami beat the Buckeyes, 24-6, and they tumbled from No. 17 out of the AP poll for the first time since 2004, snapping a string of 103 consecutive weeks ranked in the poll according to the AP.

It also marks the first time since the 2007 preseason poll -- before Michigan's loss to Appalachian State and the three-year Rich Rodriguez era -- that Michigan has been ranked above Ohio State.

In the first week of that season, the Wolverines lost to Appalachian State, 34-32, and fell all the way from No. 5 to out of the poll. Ohio State started that season No. 11 in the nation.

It was also the last time Michigan was ranked ahead of the Buckeyes, Michigan State and Notre Dame -- the school's three main rivals -- at the same time. Right now, only the Wolverines are ranked of the four.

A season ago, Michigan entered the AP poll at No. 20 and the coaches' poll at No. 22 after beating Notre Dame in South Bend in the second week of the year. In 2009, Michigan entered the AP poll at No. 25 after beating then-No. 18 Notre Dame, 38-34, and entered the coaches' poll a week later at No. 22.

Both seasons, Michigan went through the non-conference schedule and opening Big Ten game undefeated before falling apart in October and November. In 2009, Michigan finished 5-7. In 2010, the Wolverines were 7-6, and after a 52-14 loss to Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl Michigan fired Rich Rodriguez and replaced him with Brady Hoke.

Whether or not the ranking is deserved, they kind of have to be ranked at this point with the way the season has played out so far. Hopefully they can keep it.

I have faith in the new staff that they will keep the kids grounded and make them work even harder to prove themselves.
