Tyler Skaggs passed away today at 27 years of age, according to an announcement from the Los Angeles Angels. MLBTR joins all those around the game in mourning his untimely loss.

Details on Skaggs?s passing are not available at this time. The pitcher was with his team in Texas. Tonight?s scheduled game against the Rangers has been postponed.

The Angels organization issued a statement as follows:

?It is with great sorrow that we report Tyler Skaggs passed away earlier today in Texas. Tyler has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.?

That stinks.

Feel bad for Mike Trout. His brother in law, who was an Angel minor league pitcher, died in August. Now his friend dies.

Rest In Peace. So sad for children or young adults in the prime of their lives
dying. This might be the second Angel?s pitcher to die. Wasn?t the other pitcher
Adinhart or something similar last name?

Nick Adenhart.

Shortly after midnight on April 9, 2009, Adenhart was involved in a car crash in Fullerton, California, just hours after being the starting pitcher in the previous night's game. Police reported that an individual driving a red Toyota Sienna minivan ran a red light and broadsided a gray Mitsubishi Eclipse in which Adenhart was a passenger, sending it crashing into a telephone pole. The driver of the Eclipse, Cal State Fullerton cheerleader Courtney Stewart, as well as another passenger, Henry Pearson, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Already ten years ago?

Wow.

I would?ve thought only two or three.

How time flies.

Skaggs becomes the latest (non-musician) member of the infamous 27 Club.

Hotel-room deaths make me uncomfortable for some reason. No explanation, because, once we expire, it really matters not where.

Just wait until somebody dies in a hotel room with you, and you have to answer awkward questions to the police.

Talk about uncomfortable.

Santa Monica Observer reporting accidental overdose from pain medication.

Angels categorically denying this claim and criticizing SMO for the report.

Story.

Terrible. When I heard the news I immediately remembered their young pitcher Nick Adenhart being killed in a car accident and couldn?t believe that was already 10 years ago now.

The Angels honored Skaggs by placing their #45 jerseys on the pitchers mound and then proceed to throw a combined no-hitter. Unbelievable.
