Rockies vs Tigers, Game thread June 17

radar shows rain from downtown through ann arbor, but its clear after that.

They will probably wait a long long time because this is Colorado's only visit to detroit also.

Great. The best Max has looked in ages and it starts to rain.

Hopefully it's a quick delay...

Anything close to an hour and max probably doesn't return.

I'm pretty sure the radio guys said Leyland sets a clock, after 45 mins of delay...the starter is out whoever it is.

The good thing is Below should be fresh.

I was not going to reply to him, because he tends to just attempt to argue with me no matter what, but yeah, BB%, wOBA, wRC+, BIABP, OBP, SLG, OPS, K%, and GIDP are all up/down from last year.

He's still doing fantastic, but were used to better.

And yeah, just looking at a players triple crown stats is kinda LOL
You have to admit, he's not getting pitched around nearly as much this year. Without those free passes you'd expect is OBP to be a bit lower. But, his Slugging and OPS aren't far off from his career average. He also finished 2nd in the AL in GIDP last year so that's nothing new.

Last year he set a career high in GIDP with 24, he has 12 as of today.

Yes, he's getting fewer IBB, and like I said, he's still fantastic, but to people who watch him all the time, it's noticeable, almost like what Spock said, he's just trying too hard.

could he just be grounding into more DPs because guys just happen to be on base more these days?

I agree, he's had some 5 run homer swings this year.

Could be.

Or maybe he's hitting more ground balls with men on base vs. flyballs.

His best 2 years for RBI('08, '10), he has 16, and 17 GIDP, I'm sure guys were on base then a lot too.

PAs with Men On compared to Total PAs
2011: 50%
2012: 47.4%

1) could he be facing groundball pitchers more with guys on base

2) could it just be bad luck and his groundballs are occuring more often when there are people on base.

...i'm not worried about it. It'll all even out.

Yeah, I was just pointing it out it's not much of a difference. At this point in the season, a few games can shift those numbers quite a bit anyway.

Tigers were in serious talks with Orioles on Guthrie last year. Baltimore asked for Oliver and Perry. Detroit said no. Traded for Fister instead.

Santiago is now hitting .600 (3-for-5) with the bases loaded, and has 6 RBI. Tigers had their team average with the bases loaded up to .174 before that two-run Santiago single.
Tigers team leader is AJax with 7 RBI with bases loaded.

Over last 32 games, counting today, Prince is hitting .369 with 12 doubles, a triple, five HRs and 28 RBI. Leads AL w/ 44 hits since 5/14.

Wouldn't worry about Cabrera, somewhat down year statistically comparing to previous past couple years, the lower obp, walks, might have something to do with taking a different approach from the 3 spot. iirc, still He's still on pace for nearly 200 hits 30 plus homers, 125ish rbi....would think he is swinging at a few more out of zone pitches.

Nice to have great speed at the top two spots in the lineup.

Max with 58 pitches 3 2/3 innings and 6 k's so far.

LOL Fire DD!

I'd have given them Ryan Perry for free!

It's also worth noting Cabrera's BABIP was over 40 points higher last season. So that can account for some of the drop.
