At least Teemu has to stay on the big team. Sad that the rules are what will keep him there. I'd be willing to "sacrifice" next season to get some of these younger players, especially the d-men, (Sproul, Ouellet) the room to make mistakes. The current D-core is not going to get this team anywhere.

There are some interesting free agents available this year. Mike Green and Cody Franson are the first that come to mind for me. The Wings are right to be cautious though. Contracts are always seemingly going up, and the team needs to prepare to extend their young players soon.
I think the team is gauging the contract demands of their favorite targets, but focusing more on moving salary (Howard, specifically). If another team is willing to take on Howard, I could see the Wings then pursuing Green or Franson. If the Wings can't move Howard, then I don't see much change from free agency.
