Russian woman arrested in Washington, accused of acting as Russian government agent

The tin foil hats on reddit swing and miss a lot (and some fraction of reddit commenters are Russians), but someone is pointing to a New Yorker article and speculating that this is the unspecified channel they mention.

The official said that he was merely relaying talk circulating in the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but what he’d heard was astonishing: people were saying that the Kremlin had intervened to block Trump’s initial choice for Secretary of State, Mitt Romney. (During Romney’s run for the White House in 2012, he was notably hawkish on Russia, calling it the single greatest threat to the U.S.)The memo said that the Kremlin, through unspecified channels, had asked Trump to appoint someone who would be prepared to lift Ukraine-related sanctions, and who would cooperate on security issues of interest to Russia, such as the conflict in Syria. If what the source heard was true, then a foreign power was exercising pivotal influence over U.S. foreign policy—and an incoming President.

The speculation is based on a section of the affidavit on Maria Butina which describes Butina discussing how "our people" feel about the proposed Secretary of State with an unnamed Russian official in November of 2016.

Maybe tin foil hat stuff, but it's one heck of a loop to close if it's true.

She was arrested yesterday. Court documents were sealed until right after Trump's meeting with Putin.

Since Russia cannot match our military spending on weaponry and equipment, invading the US virtually and socially is much cheaper and very effective.

Hope they arrest every last one of them but Comrade Trump will probably just pardon them all.... Trump is a traitor . I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t give a Putin all our codes in this meeting . Trump is a fucking joke and a fool. All he did was disgrace Americans today. Trump believes Putin over American intelligence agencies . All members of The GOP who condone and support what Trump did in Russia should be arrested.

Just words . We need action before Trump gives everything to Putin. If this is not enough to impeach him I do not know what will be . Heck Religious nut Pence is probably better then Trump the traitor.

I think he'd be better just based on lack of conflicts of interest.
How much is Mike Pence worth?

While exactly how many billions Trump may or may not have has been a source of dispute, Pence's net worth sits almost entirely in the value of his pension. The governor declares he has a pension from the state of Indiana worth between $500,000 and $1 million.

The affidavit has some good bits.

Within the email, U.S. Person 1 stated, "Unrelated to specific presidential campaigns, I've been involved in securing a VERY private line of communication between the Kremlin and key POLITICAL PARTY 1 leaders through, of all conduits, the [GUN RIGHTS ORGANIZATION]."

Of course, it doesn't identify who POLITICAL PARTY 1 or GUN RIGHTS ORGANIZATION are, but it does say the GUN RIGHTS ORGANIZATION is the largest sponsor of the elections to the US Congress, as well as a sponsor to The CPAC conference and other events.

Read some reports today that some Republicans who are being publicly critical of Trump have recieved threats of harm to them, their relatives, friends, and family members, as well as being doxxed online.

relatives and family members...they are going way too far!

I think SNL needs to put Alec Baldwin on stage with these guys:

The obvious sketch plot would be competent spies being thwarted by underestimating the stupidity of their mark. I figure Tinsel could do better though.

I wonder why, considering the NRA's role in this, nobody's got a statement from NRA President Oliver North.

Gullo, would you say that logic is a discipline that could be described as a science? Hey

Edit: oh shit-this is the wrong thread.

I'm not sure. It's almost philosophy and close to math. If math is a science, then I might be cool calling logic a science.

In order to call it a science, you need to be able to make observations, develop theories, test those theories, and then either disprove your theory or have some amount of evidence that it may be true. I think you can argue that's been done in logic, but hard hitting logic is over my head. I think Bertrand Russel wrote 300-400 pages laying out groundwork for logic that allows a mathematician to assert that 1+1=2, and then later in his career, he disproved that logic. So that says to me that yes, if you go deep enough into the field, logic is a science.
