Saints Bounty Player Suspensions

I think Vilma was suspended for to long. I mean if they wanted to go 8 that would have been fine but all 16 was a little rough.

A whole year, damn. Can he protest or have a review or something? Hargrove, I have to laugh at that one now being on a rival.

You need to set an example. And Vilma was top stooge. You don't admit what he did, keep it in your back pocket, lol.

Ban Hammer! I think the penalties are way too harsh but the Comish knows he has to come down hard or the media will eat him alive.

I don't know if its the same, different or what but Alex Karras and Paul Hornung were suspended for a year betting on football. So a year is fine.

The real question is when will Karras be put in the HOF. Its a travesty that they let Hornung in but not Karras who was one of the best DL to ever put the pads on.

I think the suspensions had to be steep so this never happens again. What really hurt Vilma's case was he admits he threw 10k down on a table and said its for who ever takes Favre out of the game.

I played high school football with Hargrove but if he was part of the bounty program he deserves to get suspended like the rest of them. I just wonder what they have on the other players that are not Vilma.

The funny part is when you appeal the comish hears the appeal so it may work but I doubt it.

Some more on Hargrove:

When the story first broke two months ago, I reported in Sports Illustrated that one Saints player was caught yelling during the NFC Championship Game in January 2010, after Favre was helped off the field due to a brutal high-low hit, "Pay me my money!'' The league's sanctions today lend credence Hargrove being that money-seeking player.
If Hargrove, as the league said in its release today, was suspended eight games after being a whistleblower and doing the league the service of signing a document confirming the existing of the bounty program, the NFL must have something major on him.
Favre was hit so hard and so repeatedly in the game that the league shortly thereafter fined two Saints $25,000 for three separate illegal hits, the last leaving Favre with a badly sprained ankle. That led to NFL Films capturing Hargrove excitedly telling mates on the sidelines, while slapping their hands, "Favre is out of the game! Favre is done! Favre is done!''

I have heard and seen the audio on him, I also remember watching the game and when he got the roughing the passer penalty that it was a bad call. There has to be more to it than audio and a borderline call, unless Goddell is beyond pissed about the audio.

Why does there have to be more? Someone screaming "pay me the money", unless its Cuba Gooding Jr., it's probably a red flag.

I was just saying I don't believe that deserves 8 games. His 2 hits were no where near the hardest/cheapest hits in the game. As I stated that Goddell has to be beyond pissed about the audio.

The audio alone should be 8 games. You can't have guys screaming for money after a hit. WTH do you think he was going to do?

-The league said Hargrove "actively obstructed the league's 2010 investigation into the program by being untruthful to investigators." He also "actively participated in the program while a member of the Saints," the league said, adding that he eventually "submitted a signed declaration to the league that established not only the existence of the program at the Saints, but also that he knew about and participated in it."

-According to the NFL, Fujita "pledged a significant amount of money to the prohibited pay-for-performance/bounty pool during the 2009 NFL Playoffs when he played for the Saints."

-The NFL said that "multiple independent sources" said Smith "pledged significant sums to the program pool."

This is probably why he got a bigger suspension, and that is what I was wondering in the first place. I just dont understand how Fujita and Smith didn't get the same as Vilma since they pitched in on the bounty pool.

I suspect because Vilma was so vocal about it. In any event, if this doesn't nip it in the bud nothing will.
