Sanchez wants 6/$90MM

Mr. I is spending money like a drunken Steinbrenner, winning a World Series has to be at the top of his bucket list.... what a great time to be a Tiger fan!

My guess is it will come to a screeching halt as soon as he dies

I wouldn't be surprised to see Gilbert as the next owner. Mr. I seemed to talk like his kids weren't terribly interested in that responsibility.

I read years ago where the son and daughter at the time were not interested in baseball.

The Cubs offered $15M over 5 years to rot. We should be (fingers crossed) World Series contenders for the next 5 years. I am shocked we didn't under bid them by at least $1M/yr and point out the obvious....but then again...I'm sure he has a family to feed.

"The Cubs? Lol, yeah okay buddy" DD. Should have been the response.

I'm think that too, maybe a Marlins type fire sale. Hopefully the old raggedy bird hangs on for awhile.

Unlikely.

Not only will the Tigers be able to turn a profit while having a payroll of 180 million, but a successful Tigers team increases revenue for many other ventures in Illitch Holdings.

No chance they sell.

0.

Much more likely to sell the Wings than the Tigers.

Don't have to be.

It makes business sense to own the Tigers, and for the Tigers to be good.

Taking a fat payout of your inheretence also makes good business sense to trust fund babies and wives with zero interest in the family business. See the Davidson heirs and the Pistons as a recent local example.

I should have clarified. I read years ago the Son and Daughter at the time were not interested in running the Detroit Tigers baseball franchise.

It might make sense but it doesn't mean they want to do it.

Chris Illitch has been in charge of Illitch Holdings for a while.

He's the one running the empire right now, he's more than a trust fund kid with zero interest in the business.

He's heavily invested in the family business.

It's all just speculation at this point, but I just can't see it.

They don't have to be involved in the day to day operations of the franchise at all.

I met the son, Chris, and the son-in-law Dave Trepeck before when the Palladium was being built and opened. I'm aware of who they are and what they do.

Mr. I just gave an interview last year where he basically said that the kids weren't into it and he wasn't sure he wanted to place that burden on them to carry on his passions and legacy. His words, not mine.

You might be right but I also wouldn't be shocked if it happened though.

This team has been losing money since Mr I has upped the payroll. I read in Forbes that in 2010 & 2011 they were about $30M in the red each year. Mr I is passionate about winning and it appears he doesn't care about losing money (why would he....he can't take it with him).
