Sanchez wants 6/$90MM

im surprised the tigers raised their offer to. i would have thougt they would stand pat at 5/75 i mean you would think he would choose the tigers over the cubs for that offer.

DD go out and package ricky for something nice.

I think that Sanchez could have been had @ 75MM, Tiger's brass should have called his agent's bluff. Annibal really didn't WANT to pitch for the Cubs, otherwise he would have accepted their original offer. Only $$10MM and one year less than what they were first seeking, yuck!!

Apparently there was another team involved making a last minute push for Sanchez this morning other than the Tigers and Cubs from what I am hearing. Not sure if they offered 5/80m or not though.

Honestly though I would have expected that to have increased with the way the contracts have looked so far this offseason so really 16m a year for a pitcher of his caliber isn't as far fetched as we had originally thought when first hearing 6/90 was what they were seeking.

Sanchez better win 20 games next season, or I will attend a September game that he starts and boo-heckle the living shit outta him.

5 years, $80 Million, done deal. Wow. the Tigers are serious about winning.

Porcello, Boesch, and a prospect for either a LFer or throw in Perralta and we can get a great SS.

Just heard it on XM radio on the way to getting my DD's coffee.

Like most every signing this off season, seems to be more than what was the anticipated and going rate for pitchers and positional, even the platoon players with 2/3 year deals for more than past.

and the more I think about, sure now we have a future HOF starter, and 3 top starters, and either Porcello or Smyly.
The thing is, most every team has some sort of problem, injury and having to fill in for their starters every year.
Look at the Tigers in 2012, Fister missing time, and Scherzer missing time.
Having/Keeping both Porcello and Smyly gives some flexibility and insurance if or when one of the pitchers misses some starts. With Rick, the devil wwe know is better than the one we don't.....insert AA AAA callup.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/stats/pitching/_/name/det/seasontype/2/split/127/detroit-tigers Tigers starters for 2012.
122 ? starts from JV, Max, Fister, Rick.
and if they decide to trade him, I hope it's in a package to fill other needs, such as a Rick, Boesch, Peralta for the righty bat for leftfield and the shortstop that has much better range and sprays the ball around when batting. jmo

I mean seriously the amount pitchers have been given this offseason is crazy really.

Dempster - 2/26.5m
Greinke - 6/147m
Haren - 1/13m
Kuroda - 1/15m
Guthrie - 3/25m
Hyun-Jin Ryu - 6/67.7

Hot & Readys $10.00 a pop, if the Tigers intend to keep most (4) of this roto intact beyond next season?

80 million..sheesh...and here I would be positively thrilled if I had an extra $80.00 in my wallet.

This should be a pretty imposing rotation and definitely nice to have it intact for the whole year.

Now let's go trading!!!

I'm reading Edwin Jackson could get a 5yr deal at $13mil/yr from San Diego. The pitching market is definitely trending upward in price.

I guess there was no team discount with this, lol. He goes from 4-48 to 5-80. If the Dodgers can spend 220, we can go 150 I guess.

Tigers are gonna get a revenue bump of a little over 25 million from the increase in TV revenues in the next two years.

Plus, the additional revenue from ticket sales and consistently making the playoffs, as well as the revenue a successful Tiger team brings to other Illitch Holdings businesses and the casino downtown, the Tigers are more than capable of supporting a payroll this high, including future contract extensions to Cabrera and Verlander.

All contracts are going up in price.

The new TV deals from Fox, TBS, and ESPN all kick in in 2014, so all teams will be seeing a significant bump in revenue.

Plus, there is the additional money teams will receive from the central fund with the Dodgers new mega TV deal.

Mr. I is spending money like a drunken Steinbrenner, winning a World Series has to be at the top of his bucket list.... what a great time to be a Tiger fan!
