I am not impressed with any decision that has been made by the Fords. Just the recent hires are terrible
Tennessee gets Mike Verbel.
Lions get Matt Patrica.
Now we get Campbell who appears in over his head.
You could see from the first game that Goff sucked and is a shadow of his years with the Rams. I can?t stand to even watch him play now. Not impressed with Campbell and his staff. Yeah they play hard in most games and should have won the Ravens and Vikings game but you just can?t give up those leads. Gotta blame the coaches. How and the hell can our Gm start the season with these Wide Receivers ? Poor noddle arm never had a chance.
Damn it is just frustrating watching the Patriots have a losing season after Brady leaves and the next season they start 7-4 under a rookie qb who can?t even see the blitz coming from his left side. Hell he is way better the Goff so far. Man the Lions just can?t get out of their own way. Freaking Fords. Worst owners in football. One day. Maybe. Other teams rebuild and the lions just never do anything.
Its amazing that good players can make good coaches. I agree with zyxt that he has made mistakes....poor clock management.....end of game defensive stratagies.....but that goes with the territory.
I don't think he seems in over his head at all. This team has no right to be competitive in ANY game they play, let alone games vs the Ravens, Vikings or the Steelers. THERE IS VERY LITTLE talent on this team. We have the worst WR group in the NFL....easily. We have awful LB's. Bad D Line. A battered secondary that is starting 2 UDFA's AND Will Harris (who has the talent level of a bad UDFA). Awful kicker. Terrible QB.
Put it this way....if the Rams call a perfect defensive alignment on a given play.....something that has Ramsey m2m vs the primary WR and Donald and Von Miller vs single coverage blocking.....they are VERY likely to have success on that play. They have the players to execute schemes on a high level and good complimentary players as well.
Flip that. If Detroit were to call the same "perfect" defensive alignment, we have AO in coverage, Harris and maybe Flowers as our primary pass rushers. What are the Lions chances of success on that play? Not nearly as good, I'll guarantee that. And that is in a hypothetical "best case" scenario.
I'm willing to at least give them some time to get this roster to a competitive place before really judging their ability to coach them to success.
The difference between this "rebuild" and a team like the Patriots or anyone else in the middle of a rebuild is that we are starting with NOTHING where as other teams at least start over with some talent. Pats D was still REALLY good after Brady left. They plug in a decent QB and all the sudden they're back to 7-4 and looking good.
Patricia and Quinn were so bad at talent evaluation that they weren't even doing a rebuild here....they took over a 9-7 team with talent on the roster and turned it into a team that couldn't win a game without their starting QB. Not one. Couldn't do it. Trading that QB and then shedding the roster of all those terrible contracts is going to take time. The VERY LITTLE young talent we had here when Campbell and Holmes took over was Hock, Swift, Ragnow and Walker. That's it. And to be honest.....RB, C, S and TE are positions that you can get top tier talent without using round 1 picks. We had ZERO skill position talent. You can only count Okudah if you're judging talent by where they were drafted.....which is stupid. We need an edge rusher, 2 LB's 2 CB's 3 WR's a S and a QB. We have FA and what should be 5 top 110 picks in the upcoming draft. We can fill some of those holes.
I'm not sure if people realize how little talent is currently on this active roster. It's not good.
