That's what I thought - I was away from the boards for the Tigers game; I was working and was only able to catch it on the radio/TV intermittently.

I did catch the Tiger 9th, though - two out rally, and with opportunities running low, you have to send him.

He's running on contact, the ball's in the corner, rattling around, and there's just as much chance the Rangers are gonna cut the throw to keep Kelly from going to third as to try to make the play - does he beat the throw, or doesn't he? - I don't know.

I woulda sent him.

Some of you posters have been critical of Lamont for being aggressive, I'm critical of him for not being aggressive.

Likely not to get another chance like that in the game.

And you didn't.

Leyland got done saying in the live presser that there was no way that Ramon would have scored there because the ball caromed right back to Cruz.

But if he gets thrown out, which was likely, you just took the bat out of the best hitter in the games hands.

Cool, well, that's not what I saw, I saw it rattling around there in the corner, and I heard the Fox Sports announcer saying "and the ball is rattling around in the corner..."

Maybe I was watching a parellel universe game, or something.

Good to see you here on these boards, Man.

Peace.

Yeah.

The Rangers took the bat out of his hands anyway.

And I know V-Mart hits .400 with RISP.

I just thought there was a better than 40% chance that Ramon would have scored.

I'm not burning my couch over this, or anything (although it looks like it on my sig), it's a judgement call...

I just remember seeing the ball smacked into the right field corner, with a two out rally in the 9th and Neftali Feliz in the wings, and the chances waning, and the thought screaming in my mind..."YOU GOTTA SEND HIM!!!"

Now...maybe he would have been out...but this is not a second guess....

I dunno, I just don't see little stubby legged Santiago peeling from first to home and making it.

Looking at it on replay, I thought he would have been out by 20 feet if they threw home.

Cruz also has a frikken SMAW for an arm; might be the best in baseball. The ball came right to Cruz. Just watched it again.

Buck said it was rattling around, right at the point where Cruz picked and fired a missle to Moreland. Santiago would have been out easily.

OK, but...
He did slow down going into third, when he got the stop sign...so neither of us will know what would have looked like if he had gotten the green light.

Again - I'm not second guessing - we all watch baseball, and have watched it for years; we all see "time slow down" in situations like that...

...what I saw in that microsecond, that obviously seemed like longer than a microsecond, as I watched the ball rattle around in the corner, was that I was wondering what angle Samtiago was going to take as he turned the corner on the third base bag heading on to home...

Then the camera flashed to Santiago, and it showed and the announcer said that Santiago was being held.

If he hadn't been held, I don't think it would have looked like he would have been out by 20 feet.

I really was stunned that he was held.

Traditionally, on the road, in the post season, in that situation, the runner would have been sent.

Anyway.

Back home to Detroit.

And the Lions lead by a touchdown.

What the fuck is a SMAW?

It really is good to see you on these boards, Man; I just exalted you, which gives you a Karma point...maybe you don't want a Karma point because Karma is related to pagan religions...

But my guess is you'll go with the flow...

Oh, and sorry I posted "fuck," but a person gets to post "fuck" here...

Who the fuck would have thought, right?

Thanks for the endorsement. SMAW = shoulder-launched multi-purpose assault weapon. UMMarine06 would know.

Nice to be able to let down on these boards with impunity.

There should be a K in front of that KSMAW named after the Al Kaline. The Kaline Shoulder-launched Multi-purpose Assault Weapon.

and I will also exalt both of you tonight. Glad you are both here.
and like Frank Zappa said years ago, "You have to be able to say 'Fuck' on stage".

OK, simple qustion - on that exact same batted ball, if there had been no runner on base -

would Kelly have had a triple?

My guess would be no, because you don't want to get thrown out with Cabrera coming up behind you, and Cruz had the ball before he was at second I think.

But who knows.

Not likely, but that's not related to the situation on the field.

Rickey Henderson might have tripled in that situation, but he's not going to make Santiago run faster, had he been the hitter. The throw is going home no matter what the batter does.

He would have been out by a mile.

They set up the situation that has been great for the Tigers all year. Either they pitch to Cabrera or Martinez, which has been deadly.

It would have been a borderline run-down scenario.

It didn't rattle around at all and that is what cost us, it went of one wall, to the other and right to Cruz , who has a plus arm, Kelly would've never had a triple and Santiago would've been out by a mile. That was just another one of those breaks we can'r get , so far, in this series. One little different bounce off the wall and it's and easy score but it was right too him and quick. Only runner with a chance would've been Jackson.
