SI ranks all 32 starting QB's. Stafford ranked.......

Bottom line is a message board forum, especially related to sports, was basically made to argue and disagree. It doesn't work when we're all agreeing. I wish I felt good about Matt but I can't..I hope he does well just like anyone else. I root the same as everyone else, when we lost to Dallas it broke my heart as well..you move on and then talk brass taxes.

I'm not insinuating we should all agree, in fact I learn more from the those who think differently...I just have trouble figuring some people out. In one breath we have the worst team from ownership, to front office, to players and in the next breath, a playoff loss is a disappointment. If we blow that's cool, but then a winning season, forget playoff berth, is an amazing accomplishment. Me, I'll be happy with another playoff berth. Once we become a team that is expected to make the playoffs each year, I'll raise my bar. I think we need regular season consistency before postseason expectations even enter my line of thinking.

Elrod, honest opinion. Since watching Matt Stafford take his first snap, to the QB is he now, can you say with conviction that he has gotten progressively better as an NFL QB? Because I honestly cannot. He's been so up and down. There's no steady rise to an elite level. That's what worries me the most, the inconsistency.

Oh I don't disagree at all. I think he has the tools, he's shown it, but like you say...he's inconsistent. We don't even need the guy to be elite...we just need him to be down 20 in the fourth each week.

I was not on the draft Stafford squad, but then I thought I was terribly wrong and that Staff was everything he was cracked up to be. Now I'm not sure what to think. I do think he has the ability to be good enough though. (Note, not elite or great, but good enough)

Well the timing lined up really well for Matt Stafford and the Lions. They were in need of a QB, and had the #1 overall pick. To be honest, I never really thought a ton of him at Georgia. He has the same issues that he had then. Great arm, but very inconsistent and relatively immobile.

But I think all of us on this board can agree that this is the year. If he doesn't take this team somewhere, it's time to look to the draft and get someone else to start the process over. If you don't have it by your 7th year in the NFL, you probably won't have it.

Ha! When we lose Austin I have the perfect solution. Remember a year or two ago, the Eagles had the brilliant idea of making their o-line coach the d-coordinator or something silly like that (which blew the fuck up in their face)? We just give Lombardi dual coordinator roles. He's an expert at limiting an offense's scoring output!

I laughed irl. Caldwell: Just do what you do now, but in reverse.

Not sure how much time you spend reading this garbage but for the most part, imo, we're consistent. Not with each other but most of our points respectively are..

Mine have mostly been about Matt and no playoff wins. I seldom sway from that..

A playoff game?

That's awesome!!! Move over, Bradshaw!!! lol

Who would you rather have Tony, what Cam Newton has?? Or what Matt Stafford has?? Hopefully this isn't even debatable.

So knowing that Cam Newton has less to throw to, he's still put up better QBR #s than our golden child.

Cam Newton puts up better numbers??? Are you huffing glue?! Jesus Christ, man, what a joke. How so?

Stafford has never had a run game his whole career. Bush/Bell came along and made it somewhat relevant.
Newton has had TWO first rd picks in Williams and Stewart.

Stafford has had the likes of WRs CJ, Burleson, Williams, Durham, Ross, Broyles and whatever schmuck they could find.
Newton has had guys like Benjamin, Lafell and Steve Smith.

Newton has Olsen. He's a beast
Stafford has Pettigrew and Ebron. TWO first rders again. lol

Carolina has had a better OLine longer than the Lions. That's a fact!!

So don't sit there and tell me that Stafford has all the toys and Newton is left crying in the corner with nobody to play with. That's laughable!!

Keep sippin on that haterade!!

Yeah really, Luck's won three playoff games in his first three years. Come on now Tony, you can do better than that.

Do better than what?! I never said Luck wasn't better than Stafford. I was just pointing out that those top ten guys haven't won jack just yet.

I saw Staff get better LAST year. He didn't put up staggering numbers, but he showed leadership and maturity as a professional. Something we never see the first six years. No coincidence either.....he finally has the coaching.

You keep drinking that excuse-ade. Maybe you'll realize he's not a great QB in 2019?

Nice retort. You got nothing because you just got OWNED lol.

And I never said Stafford was "great". I have always said he was an above average QB between 11th-15th in the league. He's a good QB, good enough for us to win. I'll take that all day. I don't give a fuck if he's elite.

Thanks for your opinion. I wish he could put up above average stats. He was better at being a game manager last year and we benefited from that. By making him not a key to winning we were better off I agree with you on that. That works well in the regular season.

I would love our Defense to continue to carry us..it will hurt losing our best player on defense and probably the team, but we will see if the rest of the defense can play at their career year level that they did last year.

If he continues to put up below average stats it will be time to look somewhere else.

Not really. I didn't feel like responding to all of your stuff, because Cam and Stafford are about on pace to have the same TDs and INTs (when Cam catches up), but Cam has a better QBR and a ton of rushing yards to his name, while the guy throwing passes for the Lions is a parking meter. The argument has been exhausting and I am starting to hit my limit on it, but I guess that's the damage of waiting this long for the season to start.

And that's the problem. Good enough shouldn't be the level. If you want someone good enough, next time don't waste your #1 pick on a QB and give him a shit ton of money. Draft Ryan Fitzpatrick.

He does put up above average stats though. He was in a new offense with a shit OLine and no running game, new OC as well. He improved in some areas and showed maturity as a QB. So what if he's a late bloomer? The whole offense was a mess last year and YES, the QB gets part of the blame. A better running attack, reloaded OLine should make this team skyrocket.

Nah, it's because you have nothing relevant to say. You whine that Newton has nothing and Stafford has all the toys on the planet. You're ignorant actually, but whatever lol.
And who cares if Stafford is a "parking meter"? He's a drop back QB. Ooooooooh, Cam Newton can run....so fucking what? lol. I guess you can say that Cam has the advantage then, right? RIGHT, and he still hasn't won shit.

Good enough isn't bad though. Get over the fact that he's not elite. That's the problem. He's a good QB and drafting him wasn't a waste. We NEEDED a QB and it was a no brainer, buddy. Do yourself a favor and check out that 2009 draft. If you don't puke in your mouth a little then you're a gamer. It was fkn horrible after Stafford got picked. Or maybe you would have been happy with Aaron Curry? Idk..lol

Except a playoff game... Oops.

That's pretty sad you have settled on him being good enough. It's also ironic that in this city, a lot of people just pile on the excuse train for Matty Stafford, but almost everyone blasts Jimmy Howard. You take Matt Stafford to any real NFL city, and tell me if he'd still survive there under the media scrutiny. Nah, we just cover up and cover up for him. No running game, injuries, whatever else you can dig up. We don't expect Stafford to ever improve others around him, we just jump on that excuse train.

I hope this season gets here soon this Stafford stuff is getting old. I think we can all agree that this season is make or break for him.

Nothing says Matt is above average, 1st year with new staff or last year with old staff..it comes to the same. I'm curious what others are looking at to determine he's above average even by a little?

A playoff game?! So fkn what?! lol. WIN the Super Bowl!!! Newton gets a pass because the Panthers won a playoff game?? My God, you sound like an idiot.

And what have I settled on, you putz? That he's a good QB? That's a bad thing? At least I'm not crying like a cunt about him not being Aaron Rodgers or Andrew Luck. That's the pathetic part in all of this. I'm happy he's a good QB....that's not settling, man. That's called realizing he's not one of the great ones and that should be ok. He can "help" us win some games....not a bad thing in my book.

And why is it an excuse when people say our running game was shit, or that certain players were injured? It's ok to flap your gums about Cam Newton having nothing though, right? Poor Caaaaaaam....for fuck sakes.

The Stafford stuff will NEVER go away btw....

It boggles your pea brain eh? Crazy
