Purdue University's infrastructure & medical care is apparently more akin to the type of care you'd get in 1920's Alabama or Louisiana. I'm surprised they even had an x-ray machine there, and didn't proscribe blood letting, or diagnose Speight with "evil humours" or something like that.

note to Speight bashers: you may want to skip this one; article does not blame Speight for getting injured, or throwing interceptions, and has a picture of him with his parents, which may induce you to think of him as an actual human being, instead of a blip on your TV screen that you curse and throw things at.

What a joke. They treated him like he had a fractured wrist instead of a serious spine injury.

If Wil Speight wants to be treated like a little bitch princess he should be auditioning for a show on the Disney Channel.

Also you stole the reference to the 1920s from Harbaugh's quote in the article.

I didn't intentionally steal it... Harbaugh placed it in my mind.

Grant Newsome tweeted that if his injury occurred @Purdue, his leg would've been amputated.

Indiana belongs south of the Mason-Dixon line. wonder why it's always been so backward compared to rest of the Great Lakes region?

There is a question of why Speight was allowed to walk of the field in the first place. At what point did they suspect there was a back injury? Why was he transported in the front seat of a van? If they thought there was a back injury, shouldn't he have stayed down until they could arrange proper transport, or did they discover something in while the van that made them more concerned?

I live in Indiana. Too much religion/bible thumpers permeate into politics here.

At least our governor didn't poison an entire city. Every state has its issues.

That's why I asked if there was a UM Dr. on the field when he was still out there. The article talked about the care he received after he was off the field but I didn't see anything in that article about his on field care. IMO that's where they dropped the ball. He should have been on a backboard right away.

In a perfect world, yes. But I don't have the background to know how hard it is to make the right call in that situation. How big a mistake it was to let him walk off the field depends on what the doctor saw/what Speight said.

What we know, is that after the call was finally made that he should be immobilized, the resources weren't readily available. I see it as 2 separate things.

When it happened, after seeing the 300 lb'er do a belly splash right on top of Wilton Speight's head as he sat he on the ground, I thought they'd have to bring out a back-brace, stretcher, and have the ambulance come right out on the field to get him. Then he got up and walked off the field. Now we find out that would not have even been possible...

I just shudder to think, what if it had been worse?

Based on the hit I thought Speight had suffered a neck or back injury. When they showed him walking it was clear he was in great pain. You would think IU would want to address these issues for the sake of its own players. Well, maybe this will lead to changes at IU. Teams should refuse to play there until changes are made.

Well so Iu wants to skimp on facility features for the players .I hope they have good liability insurance because Wilton's family is going to get paid. Probably alot . Champ can they sue Purdue? Looks like it from where I sit but then my law expertise comes from tv shows lol.!!!! Purdue should be held accountable one way or another!!
