Stafford 4 Life

"If we had 22 Matthew Staffords, we'd win a championship every single year." -Martin Mayhew

Says the Lions will be buyers at the trade deadline.

This guy is out to lunch, wow.

I saw that. No to a Megatron trade and that we are looking at aquiring some players to quote "win some games".

Technically, Caldwell is right. It is still possible in the sense that the Lions aren’t mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

Technically an infant could fight Mike Tyson.

There might be an age restriction barring the infant from an organized fight, but maybe Verne Troyer would be up for fighting him???

Caldwell has to focus on playoffs, his job depends on it!

Sacrificing Lombardi bought him some more time.

He's been out to lunch day 1. I'm glad he spoke, we'll hear him again next year when they are 1-6 and he needs to defend Stafford.

We laugh at the Stafford comment as a potential HOFer, yet if by some chance he wins a sb, he's probably going to get there. Silly thinking he'll ever even sniff a sb chance, but still

22 Staffords would be comical. Could you imagine watching them all panic at the sight of an opposing player. They would be running around like that electric vibrating football game.

The buyer strategy in the NFL actually makes sense.

In baseball struggling teams want to sell off pieces before the deadline. In football, they want to acquire them. The reason is that mid-season trades are rare, but players moved mid-season typically go for less in draft pick compensation that the same player would go for in the off-season.

You trade for a guy now, you maybe give up a third rounder for a guy that would cost you a second rounder later. People pay more for a 16 game player than they will for an 8 game guy.

So if you want to work the trade route to help rebuild, it makes sense. However, in the NFL the term buyer doesn't mean "bought". You can be a buyer all day, there are very few sellers right before the deadline, and it's so difficult to work deals in the NFL that I would be very shocked if any moves were made at all.

The one benefit of having 22 Staffords is LKP's head would explode as he tried to find someone to blame.
He would have to credit every position with amazing play, because Stafford was at the position.

I think the biggest challenge for teams trying to sell is the amount of dead money they still have to eat. Granted the buyers do not want to take on that dead money either, so trades are made very rarely as a result. If the NFL were to just eliminate the dead money when trades are made, then they would be much more commonplace.

Maybe Mayhew can make a trade with the Giants. You know, call them up and be all like, "listen, I was conned into drafting Ebron because Lombardi told me to do it...but now that I've finally discovered Lombardi is a clueless fucktard, what do you say we have a mini-draft redo. you guys would have taken Ebron if I had drafted OBJ, so let's just trade them. i'll even toss in a draft pick for 2016. what round do you want? first round??? ok, deal!"

He should have said focus on winning some games. Saying playoffs makes him delusional. So Matt's going to be a HOF player one day? If I was Martha I'd fire him just for that.

If Mayhew is able to swing just one trade this season, I know what I would love it to be, Won't ever happen, but I would LOVE it....

Trade Caldwell back to Baltimore for Harbaugh.
