I know this is obvious(Leyland) but why isn't the everyday starting outfield Dirks, Jackson and Berry? It would be improved defense and we will find out if Berry and Dorms can be for real. Let Boesch and Young hack away in the DH platoon.

Also what happens if the recent chatter about Castellanos coming up comes true. Who goes away?

Hippo, It seems that everyone started talking about a platoon of Young and Boesch simultaneously. It would be great, and one hack master at a time in the lineup.

I am getting the feeling if the bring Castellanos up it would be as a Sept. callup, that's just a guess, who knows, Leyland would have to play him, and usually doesn't want more than 5 called up.

I agree with platooning Boesch and Delmon at DH, but I dont think Berry is the answer. There is a reason he is a 27 year old (about to be 28) rookie. Maybe if they platooned Boesch/Delmon at DH, and Baker/Berry at RF/LF.

that could work too. I wonder if the reason drop in production with Berry has had anything to do with his getting less playing time recently.

Berry has a .292 OBP, and a .597 OPS with a ton of strikeouts since the AS break.

He is also -0.7 dWAR

No thanks.

I would play Baker vs. LHP, and Boesch vs. RHP.

Berry as pinch runner, or emergency replacement.

Delmon should never see the outfield again in 2012.

Beat me to it. He hit .250 in July and is hitting .190 in August. Berry is a nice bench player but should not be playing every day.

I agree with that. But, if Boesch continues his recent trend the Tigers are in trouble. Hopefully a corner outfielder is put on waivers that the Tigers can pick up.

He's a trainwreck in the OF. I wouldn't mind his bat though...

I read an article recently from a national writer that said he has improved his outfield play dramatically. I dont know if I agree with that or not, but could he be any worse than Boesch? Even if he is horrible in the outfield he could still replace Delmon at DH. He would be an upgrade over what the Tigers have any where you put him be it outfield or DH.

I feel that...

Soriano would be an upgrade, but..I would only make a move for him if it looks like the playoffs are a sure thing.

His salary is too much, and if the Cubs agree to take a large part of it, then we're likely to give up the farm for him.

If we pay the salary he'll probably be relatively cheap in terms of trading prospects, but his $18M could hamper what we're able to do in the off season, and at this point, I'd focus more on 2013 than 2012.

So basically if we're going to make a move for Soriano, we need to get our heads out of our asses pretty quick.

Agreed, it's only worth it if the playoffs are going to happen. If the Tigers dont make the playoffs this year, getting Soriano would be pointless, and his salary would hurt free agency options next year.

The Tigers are going to need a corner OF anyway. If the Cubs eat 1/2 of his salary it will be worth it.

This is true, but if Soriano is horrible in the outfield, DH is log jammed with Victor coming back, and that would cause large problems for the Tigers.

This team isn't winning it all with or without Soriano..keep him away, it's just going to hurt the team in the long run.

Says who? You? Im sure many people said that about the Cardinals last year, anything can happen once you make the playoffs.
