I was a bit surprised to see the order to start the season is JV, Sanchez, Porcello, Fister and then Scherzer.

Our "ace" starts the year, but we save 2a, and 2b, for the real series which is against the Yankees.

Sanchez and Porcello get the Twinks.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Teams do that and I can see why. But why not just smoke Minny with our 3 best. The Yankees don't scare me.

Never pitch 2 like pitchers in a row. Switching pitching styles/pitchers does not allow the opposition to get accustomed to speed and style. This is why soft tossing lefties sometimes have a great effect. If one day you see fast balls @100 MPH, the next at 80 MPH it will throw most hitters off.

Only fans worry about who pitches when.

That's pretty obvious. Fister at 2 makes the most sense with Scherzer at 3. The Tigers don't have anyone who throws 80 but JV to Fister and back to Max works great.

The Tigers are going with Max and JV back to back. Just because Leyland is giving too much credit to the Yankees.

Shouldve had scherzer and fister switch places, since fister and porcello are pretty close to each other in pitching styles. But id understand why leyland would want scherzer and verlander back to back, that would be the death kneel for the opponents in most series.

The twins lineup could (dare I say) be BETTER than the yankees this year. Its the pitching that makes thr uankees far superior to the twins, but looking at each lineup, id rather have mauer, hicks, willingham, and morneau instead of cano, jeter, tex and whatever band of misfit characters the yanks trot out this year (including arod)

Nah, having JV and Max separated by a Fister makes a bit more sense.

Not entirely since both jv and fister have the same pitches (fastball, curve, change, slider) whereas max just have the fastball, change, slider.

Fister doesn't have a curve like JV which is just nasty . Max and JV throwing high heat but JV being after Max probably won't hurt but it'd probably be easier JV following Porcello. Same series anyway..

The team also projects scenarios based on computer software / matchups.
