Lions DT Ndamukong Suh has restrucutred his contract.
As have Nate Burleson and Matthew Stafford. Burleson's restructure will clear roughly $2.17 million in cap room. He's likely converted some of his $4 million 2012 salary to a bonus. Stafford and Suh, originally due to make a combined $20.75 million, have also likely converted some of their 2012 base salaries to bonuses.

There you go people. Move money into next year, save for this year. Still need to restructure CJ or trade Avril if they want Tulloch back

Looks like they saved about $16 million in cap space overall. Thats gonna hurt next year when they have to re-sign LoJack, Hill, Durant, Levy, Houston, and Delmas. W/e, Mayhew will find a way

You mean next year? Backus isn't even signed so that doesn't really save anything.

Then next year we will do this with other players. Its a revolving door.

2013
Yeah, KVB could certainly be gone. But looks like Nate probably stays, since cutting him now costs more due to the signing bonus. Also, Dom won't be back next year at $4 million. And Godsder is a FA, frees over $2 million

Key is CJ. If they get him signed to a reasonable deal, they'll be fine. Otherwise, they're looking at a $26-$27 million tag.

according to PFT , Lions were 11.5 million over before the restructures...they now sit about 5 - 6 million under

They still gotta tender SLH and Levy (I assume SLH gets a first or second round tender, and Levy gets original round tender), then sign Backus and Hill before they can even start thinking about Tulloch. Still work to be done here IMO.

I thought if they restructure to guaranteed money that it comes off the cap, not put towards next years cap.

Educate me.

You take the salary for this year, cut it to the minimum. The difference gets turned into a signing bonus, meaning the player gets it right away, so he loses nothing. However, the cap hit from that signing bonus gets spread out over the life of the contract. So, for Stafford, he took about a $10 million signing bonus today. So about $3.5 million gets put into each of the three years left on his contract, meaning its about a $7 million savings this year.

obviously.....why MM hasn't done it yet baffles me , he could have 4 number ones this year and 4 next year.
