Surprise, surprise, surprise: More guns = more shootings.

My suspicion is that CCW does not have a dramatic impact either way. I don't think you can really argue that there's enough data to say it points towards anything.

though you can say that when CCW holders do fire their weapons, it's rarely to defend themselves from a crime, and most often to commit suicide or murder one or more people.

Sure. But if we had the data, we could say the same thing for shootings involving people wearing sunglasses or people with beards or guns with rubber-coated grips. Since it's overwhelmingly true for guns in general, it's no surprise that it's true for concealed carry permit holders.

Champ likes to use facts to fit trolls as opposed to trolls to fit facts.

The scope of the piece is also limited to CCW incidents where not only shots were fired but someone died. I doubt there is any data available but how many crimes have been stopped by CCW carriers where no one was harmed or injured but survived. Also, I still doubt that there have only been 16 cases in 8 years that were ruled justifiable self defense. Find a piece from a legitimate source (I.e. One that's not an anti-gun liberal think tank like the VPC) that doesn't rely mostly on newspaper clippings that shows the violence is trending in the wrong direction instead of probably wildly inaccurate totals that indicate their isn't a problem like this piece...

Can't find that data because all real data shows crime trending down while CCW went up. While that could be coincidental or have a wide range of factors, the data initially indicates crime dropped over 20%. That's pretty substantial to be considered a coincidence, but not impossible.

Size of the change has nothing to do with causation vs coincidence.

While it can never be really proven, the larger the percent change the greater the probability the causation argument, but the sample size also impacts that percentage so the larger the sample size the better the potential accuracy too. Here we are talking about millions of people so the sample size and 20% change out of millions pointing toward CCW being a factor. Sure there will be deviation but it woukd be very difficult for the deviation to overcome 20% with that sample.

But you already know all that, I just write it for thise who do not.

Autism diagnoses have gone up over 100% as sales of organic food have increased. The magnitude of the increase does not imply causation.

Oh man...my wife is friends with a ton of natural health nuts. They'll love this...

tell your wife to get rid of all the belts, ropes, extension and bunji chords in your house. NOW!!!!

If anything, she'll get sick of my geekyness and the thing I'll have to watch out for is strangulation.
